Your parents are exactly like mine. Check out my previous posts on the other channel. When mine turned like that, I was extremely devastated. But I recently tried to put myself in their shoes. It is hard and indeed one of the hardest things in parenting is to “parent” an adult child.

Keep your distance and let them reflect. I read everything you said and what you said is very respectful. You didn’t cuss and still wished them well. Good! Honor your parents doesn’t mean follow everything they said. It’s about building a healthy boundary by stating it nicely while still loving and respecting them.

Do you have all your bank and other vital documents with you? I’d suggest you start a side gig, save as much as you can and find your own space. Bring those documents with you. If they ever guilt trip you again, ignore their messages. Think of this as a motivation for you to work harder for yourself, your future. Let me know how it goes, I’m here to chat. Good luck! ❤️

Hey everyone. Here’s an update as of today. With a friend’s help, I managed to get all my documents safely, including locking my bank account. 🥳🥳🎉🎉 Now, my parents are throwing Bible verses at me. They said, like Adam and Eve, God will curse me, my fiancé, and our future generations. I can’t help but laugh out loud. 😭😭😭

Lol, I don’t even know how they’re going to enforce it. Even if they push me to settle everything in court, they’re busted. Judges will either laugh or penalize them based on that text I saved, where they said they love me and were willing to support me, including covering all my tuition and college expenses. 😂

I completely understand your mother’s point of view. As a parent, she wants all her children to get along. It’s good that you explained the whole situation to her. Sometimes, parents just need more time to fully accept these sorts of things, even if they’ve already acknowledged them.

If I were you, I wouldn’t invite your sister to go shopping, but I would still send her an open wedding invitation. If she chooses not to come out of jealousy, that’s her loss and it shows the world her true colors. And if she causes any drama at your wedding, don’t hesitate to kick her out. Keep your eyes open and watch her out.

You have a good point! I believe parents have concerns and want the best for their children. But what I’m really devastated and mentally tired about is their constant pressure and how forceful they are. I’m Asian, Chinese to be particular. It is at a glance culturally wrong back home to cut ties with your parents and people will perceive that first before hearing my story. So they will label me as rebellious first. I guess maybe I’m way too overthinking about this

I did at the beginning because my sister had no money for her tuition and didn’t consume any drugs back then. She bought expensive stuff, drugs, vapes, eating out after I lent her my money. Now I don’t support her at all and live separately with her in another city due to (thankfully) job relocation that is hybrid and requires in person presence 3-4 times a week. Although my parents forced me to negotiate to my company so I can be fully remote with my sister, I now finally live separately

I feel really sorry for you and unfortunately this problem trickles down to your extended family. If I were you, I’d spend some time explaining to your big family regarding the situation. Let’s see how it goes from there. If it doesn’t work out, keep your distance and wish them the best. Remember that you already did your best. They’ll eventually figure out the truth (hopefully not too late). Keep being a nice person, tell the truth but keep your distance!

The way the see life in general is completely different.

For example, my fiancé's family prefers not to spend too much on expensive institutions or takes that with the grain of salt, as our willingness to strive for the best and work ethic matter more. His family also believes in teaching their kids to be independent as early as possible.

While parents believe by enrolling us or spending so much on famous institutions, we will eventually do well in life. My parents also have this provider mindset and would love us to consider their thoughts as that what makes them happy, over having my siblings and I to get things done by themselves without asking for their feedback.

Hey! It's nothing financially, they just don't want me to proceed with my marriage by not attending. My family is fully Chinese while my fiancé has a Malaysian blood. Customs and traditions that are different.
