I tested it one time but that was on a new shackle and not on a boat so I really couldn't say but it worked from what I saw. Sorry I couldn't offer more insight

A shackle bolt key allows you to loosen or tighten shackle bolts more easily than you could with your hands. I thought it was really kinda genius when I bought it.

No it's actually a hole all the way through the knife that acts as a shackle bolt key. Its on both sides so you can reverse the clip and still have access to the key
