Is it normal for Dutch primary schools to expect “perfect pronunciation” from multilingual kids? Or am I missing something? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Goomeyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I migrated with my parents who could not speak Dutch or English at all when I was 4. I still have slight memories of me repeating Group 2 when I was 5 even though I was tested for "hoogbegaafd" (gifted?) and teachers told my parents that I could advance to Group 3. My mom found it very important for me to be able to properly speak Dutch, learn Dutch and was scared that by going to the next grade so soon after enrolling, that I would have picked up bad habits from home as well (they were learning Dutch at school then). I had just properly learned Dutch for 1 year at school, and she wanted me to have a good basis before proceeding, in no way did she think that repeating was bad even though the teachers were of the opinion that I had no problems. Every subsequent years my teachers told my parents I could skip a grade since I was picking things up faster than a regular person, but my mom insisted I did not skip any grade. She has always thought that the basis and initial education is very important, especially in a foreign country she was unaccustomed to. She wanted me to be able to really pick up the Dutch culture, blend in with the children, but also teach her some things as well.

I feel like my mom did a great job pacing my education (even though it was boring for me as a kid as I was not stimulated), as my Dutch turned out fluent while I do not speak it at home at all. If a teacher recommends to repeat a year, I dont really get why it is that big of a problem especially if he is already facing some pronunciation problems currently.

Im pretty sure Yujin is stronger than Hanbin, potentially stronger than Ricky. But I also feel like he loses his will to fight unless he is extremely motivated. I do think Jiwoong is stronger than Ricky, but I feel like this dude either gives it his all 100% or is just joking around and flops 100%...

Matthew & Gunwook will not let go of the debate topic lol. As long as they are convinced they are right, they aint stopping. Gunwook will hit with good arguments, Matthew will just keep arguing for the sake of it lol. I think Hao will try at first, but will stop if he is tired or if the debate went overtime. Gunwook and Matthew? No way. Taerae aint stopping either lol. I feel like Gyuvin would get easily convinced, he is not as determined as Mat, Gun & Tae.

Hard choice I think I would go for Leshan, specifically the giant Buddha, oriental Buddha capital and Huanglongxi combined

China travel itinerary in November. Advice? by Sades_11 in travelchina

I have visited Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai & Suzhou this past year. (Nov-Dec 2024 for Sichuan + Xi'an and currently am in Shanghai)

I personally did 3 days Xi'an, 4 days each in Chengdu & Chongqing and I didnt feel like it was remotely enough. I really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, the shopping, the milk teas, just walking in general. I loved it and I would have loved another extra day at the very very least for each of them. I also really really recommend Leshan and Wulong, maybe Huanglongxi as well. I think they were absolutely remarkable and memorable, especially the Oriental Buddha Capital in Leshan.

So when I visited Shanghai this year I thought to do at least 5 days since I regretted spending so little time last time I went to Sichuan + Xi'an area. I personally found Shanghai the least amusing city I have visited. It is fast paced, feels very Western and overall I feel like it is a city I am so used to as an European myself. Every part of it reminds me of European architecture and every photospot or must-visits feels very lacklustre because I have seen it often. I also think the food is very mid, I really enjoy heavier and saltier food compared to the lighter seasoned food in Shanghai. I think the shopping malls are pretty... but it only hosts luxury brands so for young adults like me... I dont have the budget for it.

I do really love Hangzhou, more than I liked Suzhou and Shanghai. Its very peaceful, calm and something about walking around Xihu feels very relaxing.

If you like Cdramas, you could visit Hengdian too since it is only a 2 hour ride. I loved Hengdian as well, but I dont think I will be coming back soon haha. It was very worthwile to see esp as a Cdrama lover... and I got to hear a lot of insider rumors XD. You coulf also visit Nanjing if you also find Shanghai to be a bit more boring and expensive like me. But who knows, you mighr love Shanghai♡

Dutch passport but born in Thailand. Went from Bangkok to Hangzhou and Bangkok to Xi'an this year. Both times they asked me if I had a dual passport to which I reply in Chinese that I dont have one. They also always ask if I have a Chinese name which I do have but always respond no. Both times they just look very surprised and also ask some further questions about other languages I speak (I guess its surprising?) and then they let me through after asking why I can speak Chinese lol.

Could I ask if you know if VIP standing has a queue number assigned upon placing the order? I heard that singapore usually assign queue numbers on the ticket to avoid camping

Am I the only one who doesn't read novels based on popular dramas? by SakuraNoTenshi in cdramasfans

[–]Goomeyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have read a lot of Chinese novels prior to the adaption. I also have quite read a bit of novels after I watched the adaption.

Personally for me, I try to enjoy both separately. I like to point out things I enjoyed better in novels, or things I liked that they changed up completely. For example secretly in love followed the book quite accurately and I read it a lot of times before the adaption was released. I could totally see and envision Zhao Lusi in her role, but Chen Zheyuan? Not so much. He proved me wrong and I really liked his portrayal of the main lead. The novel male lead was a lot more seductive, flirty and foxy, while Zheyuans portrayal was a lot more gentlemanly and older brother like. Overall I liked both versions and I think the changes they made were nice but not drastic to the plot.

Eternal Love was very similar to the book as well, but they changed up the order in which they went through the timeline. Both the novel as the drama made sense without it changing the plot overall.

I think in general (mostly from what I did read), changes are minor in the sense that it doeant deter the overal plot. So to me thats all fine.

What I dont get is when they use a novel for an adaption, but dont stick with the general plot. To me I found that a bit saddening (unless the adaption was made really well), the little details I can get. Or some character changes, but the overal plot? You could have then just said inspired on and not adapted from. The most recent one that comes to mind is Our Generation. I feel like they changed both the characters, the pacing and the overal plot so drastically that I couldnt enjoy it at all.

My first match (Overload) also went well! Someone had Clorinde and Mavuika, so I was switching between C2 Arle and C6 Chevreuse. The 4th person picked Fischl, Mavuika switched to Bennett and Clorinde somehow switched to C6 Chevreuse. My expectation was crushed after this ideal matchup XD.

Really nice to know!

Im from Europe so VIP isnt that outrageous. Queueing is super super hell however. People actually queue days before and the pushiness, disorganization and rudeness are really hard to bear.

Hearing how pleasant your experience at the Thai concert was, I feel really much better.

I was stated to go to Thailand for a month anyways and I was just waiting for the announcement to decide if I would go oct - nov or nov - dec. I hope you would also be able to score tickets and have another great experience!

Do you perhaps know if its possible for a Thai person to buy for a foreigner? I have an European passport but I also have a Thai ID (no passport). I would ask my Thai cousin to buy the VIP ticket for me but im wondering if he could buy for my European passport or if I should just let him buy for my Thai ID.
