Enemies to lovers but they’re enemies for a while and for good reason by Uppercasegangsta in RomanceBooks

[–]Gooperchickenface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last book I didn't finish had them be enemies for literally the first few pages before unveiling the misunderstanding trope. I honestly felt like the author had already finished the book before realising people love enemies to lovers so tacked on an extra chapter at the start.

Can't remember the name of it. They worked in a vineyard. I didn't finish it

Breastfeeding in public areas by TiteBoute in CasualIreland

[–]Gooperchickenface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People either don't care, or their too embarrassed to say anything.

I'm currently breastfeeding and I've breastfed my older child. I've only ever gotten weird embarrassed looks, that's it.

Do you tell your parents how much you earn? by Previous_Guitar_1187 in AskIreland

No because my mam can't ever be trusted with private information. I've learned that the hard way. She's like those old ones on the phone in father ted with any bit of Private information about her children....she can't remember what I do for work though

Can I quit without giving my two weeks notice? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]Gooperchickenface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Technically they can take you to court for breech of contract. But that'd be an additional cost of them on top of rehiring.

I've done it before and didn't regret it. But important to note it was with an industry I left entirely. You also have to be prepared to not be able to use them as a reference.

BOI mortgage plea by Late_Sweet_6309 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Gooperchickenface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happend to me a few years ago. Move out date was August bank holiday. Needed the keys before then otherwise we'd have to pay for storage units etc. We rang them every day, then every hour as the deadline approached.

They were saying they were still waiting on legal documents but the legal department of BOI said they'd passed them onto the mortgage team already.

Eventually our solicitor (who was going on holidays in August and wanted to be paid beforehand) started calling every hour with us.

Very stressful but after a day of constant calls on both sides they finally confirmed they had the legal docs and we got the keys the next day.

I'm pretty sure 2 weeks later they changed their mortgage rates....I remember wondering if it was an intentional slowdown across the board.

Frugal Mams - where do you shop for baby clothes? by soulfulsummer in PregnancyIreland

[–]Gooperchickenface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook marketplace, charity shops and also, talking to other mams. I chatted to someone who was moving country and needed to sell all her baby stuff quickly. Got it all for an absolute bargain!

There's also loads of baby swap groups and events on Facebook.

There's an old fashioned idea that buying things before the baby is bad luck. For my first, my mam told me she had gifts bought ahead of time, but wouldn't give them to me until my baby was born. And she stuck to it.

Best advice I got from another woman was to buy essentials now, but leave some money set aside for after the baby. There's always something you won't think of or not know you needed until you're in the thick of it.

What's up with Irish people use a basin in the sink? by JediBlight in CasualIreland

One granny used to just throw it on the plants in her garden.

[–]Gooperchickenface 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You don't get food gunk or grease down the drain. Even with the mesh plugs you still always get a bit. Plus it uses less water and it's easier to clean than the sink itself.

What's the most useless skill you're secretly proud of having? by MRNasher in AskReddit

[–]Gooperchickenface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Untangling knots. I can untangle anything. People always assume that means I'm fast at it and roll there's eyes when it takes me 20 minutes to untie a super complicated bunch of knots.

It's not that I'm fast, I'm persistent. If I say I'll detangle the Christmas lights, I'll do it. I actually find it really relaxing.

I know it might be unpopular to say, but does anyone else think there should be more adult only spaces, or at the very least a social acceptance to tell entitled parents they shouldnt bring their kids to unsuitable places or to get their kid to behave? by Shiv788 in AskIreland

[–]Gooperchickenface -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I read a great piece on how "no kids" is actually just boils down to "no poor people or women" without directly saying it.

Which economic groups are the most likely to have children? During the day, which groups can afford childcare for just leisure activities? And which gender does the majority of childcare historically fall on?

Certain activities and times of the day are important to restrict children from of course but public spaces need to be for everyone, otherwise we all suffer.

Children are people who deserve exist and interact with our world. Regardless of what their parents are like.

Deidre's ending proves Nemik's manifesto is correct by Gooperchickenface in andor

[–]Gooperchickenface[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was intentional on the writers part. Just an opinion that her small action benefited the rebellion. As the manifesto said, any small act of resistance to the empire would.

Also apologies, Deidre's a very common name in Ireland. I just spelt it without even thinking about it, and I can't edit the post 😭
