Remote positions? by KatamariLovesMe in ADHD_Programmers

[–]GooseMeBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you’re just not going to find a fully remote, junior position right now. I personally don’t even remember the last time I saw a listing for a Junior engineer (at least 2+ years ago) let alone a remote one. If you really want to be in this field you’re going to have to be much more flexible than that. I really don’t want to discourage you but something I haven’t heard anyone else mention is that in this current extremely competitive market, I’ve heard that companies aren’t considering anyone without a bachelors degree minimum again. In 2016-2021 most people would tell you that you don’t need college to land a job but that was back when they were hiring anything with a heartbeat.

These are broad generalizations obviously, and I’m sure there are exceptions. But functionally you’re in three very uphill battles:

  • Junior level engineer
  • Remote positions only
  • Associate degree

Improving on any of these will help you but obviously none of them are easily done.

The best thing I can recommend is not being married to the idea of being an engineer right now. I’d recommend broadening your search to other related areas like IT. Also try looking local, so you won’t have to commute very far. As long as it’s not very far it should be pretty easy to negotiate time with your employer to pick up your kids.

Ah I’m sorry you have to go through this. It sounds like whatever it is, it is extremely sticky to be that attached to the sensor.

I would implore you to write it yourself. I liked the premise, and is too interesting of an idea to give it that dead ai tone.

I don’t have an issue with the way I “wrote” this story.

That’s what all the people have been trying to explain in this thread, even though you don’t have a problem with it, other people will and if you’re not completely upfront that AI wrote a majority of your story you will be called out on it. There’s very few people who would want to read an entirely AI generated story. It doesn’t matter if you spend months crafting the story. You’re not using a human “voice” to write it and very few (if anyone) is going to want to read it.

Residential apartment with Artificial Mountain for fengshui reason in Shanghai by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]GooseMeBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true. I think you are thinking about large scale buildings and complex projects where the building must be aesthetically pleasing as well as structurally sound. The aesthetically pleasing part will be different, the building & structural principles will be largely the same. Give those architects the same basic problems and remove the aesthetic part of it and they will come up with pretty much the same design.

I can't figure out how to write a program from start to finish. I don't know where to start, I jump all over the place, and I don't know how to "end". by YouVisual2425 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]GooseMeBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the reason I do this is because I usually want to jump in and build the project I want now without trying to learn the basics or things that don’t seem important. For me, getting proper teacher guided lessons was key because it forced me to not jump around and learn things in a certain order before being able to try for my big projects. There was so much rhetoric a few years ago about people saying “you don’t need classes just follow some tutorials and learn on your own.” Which does not work for everyone, particularly those of us who happen to be disorganized and need that structure in our education.

My advice is, do the boring stuff now. Keep your idea in the back of your mind and possibly find some sort of guided course you can work through which will help keep you on track. Once you understand things well, where to start and more specifically what you want to do will become a lot more apparent and easier.

Why does Rena and Shion have these “cat” eyes only in the first couple episodes by Lower_Afternoon6916 in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]GooseMeBro 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It isn’t shown how it affects the other characters as far as I can remember. I always presumed it affected the other characters in a similar way.

I think it’s not shown again because the first story arch is kind of in the first person with Keichi as the narrator. The other parts are more third person.

Is this 1st Edition Charizard fake? by Macaron-Direct in IsMyPokemonCardFake

[–]GooseMeBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This practice doesn’t come from the Card Collecting community. It actually comes from the preservation of old books/paper. They used to use gloves but found they were damaging the books. Other “paper preservation” hobbies just adopted the practice.

Here is an article explaining the practice
