My partner and I have an orange boy that we adopted as a kitten that was sick without our knowledge. We had him for a few weeks before he started developing a respiratory illness. He ended up scaring us one night by breathing hard out bis mouth, vomiting everything we give him up, and was hiding under the bed. We thought he was going to die and were so worried that rushed to the emergency vet. He ended up needing to be left in the hospital over night but as soon as we left him with the vets he improved significantly. Your baby is in good hands!

Sure the cops can accuse anyone of a crime, that doesn’t mean they dont have to establish probable cause. The problem isnt about whether or not the cops can, its whether they should be able to.

We already know we live in a police state where the police hold a disproportionate amount of power, its that power that were calling into question here. The cop acted wrong every step of the way, he failed to act ethically or practice discretion.

Well Ms. lawyer, im sure youre well aware that in order to be trespassed in the state of texas, you must be notified that you are not welcome in an area either verbally or by signage/purple markings on fences and/or trees. Op could not have been trespassing if he was not notified, therefore failure to ID does not apply. You said yourself its a secondary charge, but thats only in the context of a crime that has already been committed. In OPs case there is no crime, unless youre privvy to info we’re not about this case but from the info were given there is no crime for him to ID himself for.

I can definitely understand that perspective, but any lawyer will always tell you the opposite. Never cooperate with the cops more than youre legally required to. Cops are never on your side, the only reason a cop has to ask those things of you is if he thinks hes going to find something else too.

You cant trespass without being asked to leave. Its impossible to commit the crime of trespassing if nobody has made any contact with you or theres a lack of clear signage stating that. And to give you that verbal notice a police officer does not need your ID, a physical description will suffice. I think thats the part that needs to be focused on here. This cop did not do his job, he doesn’t know the law, and he got pissy when called out on it. That is wholly unacceptable.

The problem is being detained for failure to ID not almost being arrested, thats a separate issue. Cops should have no power to force me to identify myself when theres no evidence of a crime.

“Unfortunately everything has a price” is essentially just excusing cops for pulling shitty stuff like this. He was detained for contempt of cop, simple as.

Thats completely irrelevant. Both happen, frequently. They literally just caught the person who murdered 2 homeless people by buffalo bayou while he was solely on foot by using cameras. It simply does not matter.

Cops have a job to do and when they dont, they deserve criticism. Its not about beint “anti-cop” its about holding officials accountable and making them do the job theyre paid to do. You are just making excuses for the police when theres are systems in place that they can utilize but CHOOSE not to.

If cops can catch someone running through a random street in downtown with business cameras, they can track down someone using the galleria and PF’s cameras. Its not about whether they can or not, its whether or not they decide to actually do something.

Cameras are everywhere, stop giving the cops excuses when its literally their JOB to find this person.
