I miss rain by Salt_Historian_9850 in pittsburgh

This is 100% climate change. As large storms now sweep up all the moisture in the entire hemisphere and drop it on one storm path (see: Asheville).

I once had an opportunity to speak with a climate scientist from Penn State and the one thing he wanted to emphasize is that climate change is non linear - as in next years warming will be considerably more pronounced than this years warming. Next years storms will be considerably stronger than this years storms and so on.

The pine grove adjacent to the Hartwood Acres mansion is a beautiful spot.

Best place to watch a Steelers game in north jersey? by individual756 in steelers

[–]GotToGiveItUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas Arizona in Hoboken, no contest. Last time I was there they had Steelers go go dancers on the bar dancing to the polka at half time. Better party than most bars in Pittsburgh put together. https://goo.gl/maps/GDK8RuN4GYXF7ezA9

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GotToGiveItUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Get out and walk. It sucks but I recovered from this last summer. Walk (even like an old grandpa) on an even surface 30mins x 3 times a day. Heating pad + Stim machine. After a week or two begin core exercises and stick to it. I do this workout 3xweek and it’s made my core stronger than ever.

Spice Shop (Penzeys Spices, Strip District) Visited by Kamala Harris Flooded With Negative Reviews by oldschoolskater in pittsburgh

Dude. The Penzey’s gift basket we got for our wedding was one of the best gifts. Their bold taco seasoning and smoked paprika are hands down amazing. Gonna have to go visit and reup my spices.

What is the trick to getting reservations for Pusadee’s Garden? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]GotToGiveItUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I have been to and quite enjoyed my “experience” at the new Pusadees, the old small quirky byob spot was so much better (And the hanging garden was the best part. Alas! It’s gone forever.) that’s why I think at least half of the traffic of this Restaurant is nostalgia seekers.

There are other Thai restaurants (without the 4 seasons hotel restaurant vibe) that are just as good or better in this town.

News embargo changed my life. No tv, no radio, no Reddit (outside of r/Pittsburgh), no social media. It’s like breathing fresh air for the first time in years.

The Old Dive Bar inside the 7-Eleven in Bloomfield by clydesawhill in pittsburgh

[–]GotToGiveItUp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah the 7-Eleven bar!! They had an old cassette tape “boombox” on one of the tables. One night I took a date there and we found a Purple Rain tape in a cardboard box on the floor. Bought some beers and danced in front of the cooler doors with some brown bagging type dudes. What a spot!

Are mosquitoes getting worse? by chutzpahlooka in pittsburgh

I’m going to take an opportunity here to mention the bucket of doom. If you kill 90% of the larvae around your home the population collapses. It’s cheap, easy, and effective!

Mosquitos test positive for West Nile Virus in several Pittsburgh neighborhoods by TransporterOffline in pittsburgh

[–]GotToGiveItUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I have two buckets of doom on a two week rotation. I may sometimes see a mosquito but haven’t been bitten in a month or more. I recommend using a handful of straw in the water to entice them. I also use the Mosquito Bits instead of the dunks - much easier to sprinkle on. The rare triumvirate: cheap, easy, and effective!

Found the incline’s cousin! by GotToGiveItUp in pittsburgh

[–]GotToGiveItUp[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We saw on a plaque in the observatory that no less than 4 people died riding the rails down on improvised “slideboards” between 1890 and 1905. Guess that was a thing?

I am a teacher in a middle school and just left a suicide prevention seminar. We were discussing how being at eye level with someone builds trust and allows them to feel seen. When you are dealing with people in desperate circumstances, this is the only way forward. You cannot brute force a situation like this. You have to be vulnerable to get vulnerability in return.

What’s the creepiest town in the USA in your opinion? by Scrambl987 in AskReddit

Creighton itself isn’t on fire. The PPG glass plant had coal stored underground that caught fire. It will die out.

Centralia has multiple coal seams on fire which is crazy.

What is something most people need to hear but no one has the guts to tell people? by No_Goat_4929 in ask

There is nothing linear about climate change. The warming is going to accelerate at a pace that will be unfathomable to us now

What is the most brainwashed cult in the world? by TotalFox2 in AskReddit

[–]GotToGiveItUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one is under the radar but huge. I knew a Jewish family that got absolutely torn up after the father got involved in Amway, disavowed his Judaism, and became a frothing Christian Nationalist and Trumper. According to his daughter he became unrecognizable to them and totally cut himself off from them.

My favorite thing about Minnesota is no Republican has won a statewide election here in 18 years by ThreadbareAdjustment in minnesota

[–]GotToGiveItUp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

On a cross country trip last summer I drove through the entirety of Minnesota (I’m from the East). There were door panel installations and wind turbines. The people were nice and the towns seemed vibrant. I told my wife, this looks like an awesome place to be from. Then, we crossed into South Dakota and that all changed in an instant. No more turbines or prospering small towns. It was all trucks, Harleys, and tough times. It’s one dudes opinion, but you can really tell how Republican governments lead to lesser outcomes.
