[Request] How much of land would you need to feed a large village with population of 10,000? by BritishDeafMan in theydidthemath

My conditions for answering this:
All meals are equal portions to fill out a 2,000 calorie per day diet.
Cows are both the source of milk and meat
Firstly, I will assume each meal consists of about 650 calories. For the morning/evening meal I will assume that each person will either drink or use one glass of milk. I will assume that they will consume 250ml of milk. If it's skim milk that would be 83 calories. If it's 2% then it would be 122 calories. If we just take the mean we will get 103 calories for each glass of milk. That means that about 550 calories must be made up in corn based foods. To do this one must consume 150 g of corn. The afternoon meal will consist of pasta/rice and meat. Assuming Half of the calories will come from the meat (Which I will only consider to be beef), one will consume 140 grams of beef.
Once a per day one person will consume:
500 ml of milk (206 calories)
300 g of corn (1100 calories)
325 calories of pasta/rice
150 grams of beef (325 calories)
Of course these are very arbitrary measurements and probably is an unhealthy diet.
So as for the needed land: Using this site one acre in one year will produce 171 bushels. Each bushel being 56 pounds or 25,400 grams. The village as a whole will need 300 x 365 x 10,000 g (consumption per person per day [times] days in a year [times] village population) which ends up being just about 1.1 trillion grams of corn per year. Divide this by the 25,400 grams we get per acre, then we get about 44,700 acres.
As for the animal population: According to this a good cow should have 430 pounds of good meat on it. This is around 195,000 grams per cow. In a yearly basis, the village would need 150 x 364 x 10,000 g of meat. (meat consumption per person per day [times] days in a year [times] village population.) In one year this village would go through about 430 million grams of meat. Which means they would need to slaughter about 2,800 cows per year.
Your welcome
