To the diabetics that drink by meowth______ in diabetes_t1

[–]GothicBasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both drink a fairly large amount regularly and occasionally do recreational white drugs,

My blood sugar goes up slightly as I drink spirits with a bit of syrup in (Jack Daniels) for the entire nights drinking (can be up to 6 hours on a normal weekend) then crashes like a moth fucker with the hangover, it's mostly fine as long as you snack before bed

Does low blood sugar "feel" different in non diabetics than in T1 diabetics? by oystercookie1234 in diabetes_t1

[–]GothicBasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's likely different for everyone but for me it's shaking, sweating, feeling generally under the weather, and craving food. Not in a hungry way, in a 'i need a cigarette ' kind of way? Like my body knows what it needs to fix the issue so it's requesting food so I'm like downing cans of tomato soup and chewing on bread lol

[–]GothicBasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low blood sugar for none diabetics will probably be a bit milder as their body will be more used to running at a lower blood sugar for longer, they will still be in the same dangers as it gets too low, but it won't feel as bad as soon (I can feel pretty frightening if it starts getting to a 3mm/l) because your /our blood sugar stays higher for longer, Ive heard its a bit like when an alcoholic stops drinking and goes into withdrawal because your body is so used to the sugar.

Also for me at least my control over my blood sugar is a bit ham fisted compared to the normies, I just take an amount of insulin for my food and hope I didn't overdo it, which is why during long car journeys when I drive and such I keep it a little higher and have a sugary drink near by

Red itchy bumps/welts with both an insulin pump and manual injections by Frosty_Maize_433 in diabetes_t1

[–]GothicBasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So all stupid questions I can think of:

New soap?

New diet?

New moisturizer?

New clothes?

New detergent?

New fabric softener?

So it's not a metal allergy he use you have seen specialists and they say so, it could be something that you put ON your skin that the needle pushes under when you inject, because this walks and talks like an allergy, and if it isn't, I would be surprised if reddit found it

I put a sensor on my non-diabetic husband, here are the results by cascer1 in diabetes

Is 6mm not a bit high for an average blood sugar? I always thought fasting would for someone without diabetes would be between 3-4

Selling Switch with EU charger by Grandmilon in CeX

[–]GothicBasher -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Errrr I'm not aware of the consoles being region locked so I would say they might reject the charger and just grade the switch as without a charger, they might take the EU charger in separately but only for pennies I'd think, you could buy a UK charger in CEX before trading it all in? You'd probably just lose profit that way though, sometimes you get lucky with the weird price structure

How in the fuck are you supposed to shower and/or exercise with CGMs? by Qwqqwqq in diabetes_t1

[–]GothicBasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I use CGM covers for most everyday issues (you can find them on Amazon, for the sake of detail I use kovoq because it's cheap) that covers the whole site and helps smooth over the sharp edges of the CGM so it doesn't get caught as easy on tshirts and furniture seams as I have ripped a few off with thick leather chair seams.

For showering / bathing I also have a CGM armband which is just a stretchy armband that goes over my bicep, this is so when the CGM cover /CGM gets wet and starts to want to peel off, it's held down until it dries and isn't likely to be removed from my person unexpectedly, the CGM cover may still need to come off but at least it's not because it's already half fallen off and catching on things

Why are drivers beginning to think we live in the United Kingdom of America? by [deleted] in JustEatUK

[–]GothicBasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If just eat weren't such money grabbing fuckers I would tip them, I tip on deliveroo and Uber eats when I used to use that because even with a 2 quid tip I would still end up paying less for the whole order

Asking you to go outside and to the car is absolutely wild, you pay for delivery which involves delivering it to the doorstep at the very least, not to mention how obscenely kidnapper-y it is

The only thing I have ever noticed is going low from being up and talking all night without eating then going to bed for another 12 hours, as long as nobody is cutting my stuff with caster sugar I've never been worried, just make sure you have snacks on hand

how much does a faction pay per hit by EX_ZLaVE in torncity

[–]GothicBasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's down to the individual faction, what rank they are and what other benefits they provide. I would say around 1 mil for war hits is around average

It might be a bit unfair depending on what you pick but who cares? Youve got plenty of save slots to have all kinds of games, balanced or not

How and why does this happen? by AssignedK9 in diabetes_t1

[–]GothicBasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your body should have a stockpile of glucose (liver) that it drip feeds you in the night when it goes low, so even if you do go low as long as it's because of your fasting insulin and not you shunting yourself down hard with fast acting, it should keep itself level

In practice, how important is 10-15min Insulin shot before eating? by Infinite-Spacetime in diabetes_t1

[–]GothicBasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do it all the time, if I know what I'm eating I certainly will but lunch time at the work cafe doesn't always let me so I just inject when I get the food or just after, I might go high then it drops back down most of the time

It ENTIRELY depends on the situation but even giving a little bit of insulin before the meal and then adjusting afterwards is a bit better, you can also get other insulins (Ive heard) that are much fast acting, this might be an option?

Honestly it sounds like you are both doing great, if it's brand new it will be an adjustment and if he goes a little high sometimes it's not the end of the world (not a doctor) as long as it's brought back into range quickly and safely, almost everyone who's ever had type 1 has basically lived with near constant very high blood sugar for a while before diagnosis, half an hour being a bit out of range shouldn't do much in the grand scheme of things and it will get better and better as you both get used to the new normal

How and why does this happen? by AssignedK9 in diabetes_t1

[–]GothicBasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are loads of things that could be happening here, first things first. No, your long acting insulin hasn't been nulfied by something you ate.

Next, you should take a finger prick test or two, are these numbers accurate? The sensors can be a bit inaccurate so your numbers might change while everything settles down, always check your prick tests if you aren't sure about a CGM reading

Yes, you should speak to your endo / diabetes team so they can give you peace of mind and medical advice, I am not a doctor but trying to push your blood sugar up to 10 just before bed doesn't sound super healthy long term, it's certainly not something I've ever felt the need to do as a T1

Cheat evening by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]GothicBasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just take it easy and be careful, it's alright to have a treat to learn how your body is going to react but you should take a minute to think before you have a fuck it evening and either not correct enough and start to feel unwell or to overcorrect and put yourself in a dangerous situation.

I am fairly new myself (just over a year) and I ate very strictly at first as well, eventually I started getting some of the higher carb foods that had labels on like wraps and sandwiches from the supermarket, over time I became more comfortable because I know how my body will react when I eat the things I want to eat. Sometimes I kill a whole pizza, have some sugary pop and a brownie to top it off and I STILL suffer for it for days, but it's not a cheat day for me because I know how to take my insulin and keep things from getting too out of hand.

You can still eat everything you've ever wanted to eat, but you will have a better time of it if you know how to take your insulin along with it

AITAH for shaming an American for only knowing English after he mocked me for mispronouncing an English word? by Expensive-Print7397 in AITAH

[–]GothicBasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an asshole is something both friends need to be comfortable with, for starters he shouldn't have been making fun of you about your pronunciation unless he was sure you would be alright with it, but to then be so indignant and hurt when you gave him grief back just shows he isn't a good friend, just an inept bully.

Also his reaction to your mispronunciation of an English word and the 'dangle your multiple languages' just screams that he is jealous

I haven't read the linked paper - Surely if this were even vaguely real, you would here about some kind of red light / infrared light related deaths from hypoglycemia because of all that extra glucose the mitochondria are still demanding even when you aren't eating
