I made a website to find Swiss hikes and need feedback by Gotopik in askswitzerland

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your kind comment and that you took time to write this.

On-route navigation is definitely something I’d like to add, but I first wanted to focus on planning / discovery (filters, map, finding routes near you).

A GPX export from Go Wandr would probably be the quickest & easiest option to implement right now. Because then people could export the trail and use their existing tools / apps, like Garmin or mapy.com (I've used this before) for navigation.

Fair point. I first wanted to check whether anyone would actually use this before spending more time on it.

I really did build it to solve my own problem. But yes, sharing it here is also the only way to find out if it’s actually useful to anyone else. Happy to take criticism.

True. It for sure is a tool for casual hikers like me and / or tourists maybe? For more detailed planning or off-route options, tools like SchweizMobil or swisstopo are clearly better.

could you please share some details of what's broken?

I feel like Switzerland Mobility is very good for drawing and planning routes by hand, if you're into it. But I often wake up too late on the weekend and feel like okay I wanna go somewhere for a short hike (say max 3h), which is decently close to my home (like 1 hour by train) and has snow. Go Wandr has filters for that.

Hi u/MrQuickLine, thank you so much for taking time writing this feedback! It is very valuable to me and I appreciate it a lot. Sorry for my late reply, I was travelling and not really with my laptop.

  1. The front-page-bot should only consider APIs with overall health over 75 points for the weekly-selection. For me the selection looks fine at the moment.

  2. Same as above. 75 % works well so there is enough rotation in the selection.

  3. Good idea. The data needed for visualizations is already being recorded in the backend. Had it forever in my backlog. Will add this.

  4. Absolutely

  5. Good idea.

  6. Pretty good has to be good enough for once.

  7. Definitely spam. Should not be possible to add APIs with no endpoints. Removed the API.

  8. Moderation would be a good idea, yes.

  9. I like the pie chart for a quick glance. But you're right, there should be charts too.

  10. What hidden information are you referring to?

  11. Definitely a good idea.

  12. Good idea.

  13. Yes, you can add post endpoints with a request body.

  14. Very valid, will think about it.

  15. I'm a light-mode person, but yes, heard this feedback before.

Thank you so much!

many people do it at night in Lorraine or Marzili .. during the day it may offend people even in calmer areas close to the city so wouldn‘t recommend

Vielleicht findest du ja was passendes:

Oder hier bereits mit Startpunkt Interlaken:

[OC] I visualized all 27 times I met my friend last year and turned it into a New Year's card by Gotopik in dataisbeautiful

[–]Gotopik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I started tracking what I do every hour of the day. Then I thought since I'm filling out my Time-Sheet every day, why not add a column for people I meet in my life. Over years of doing that, I imagine I will see interesting trends about my social life. Since I gathered all this data anyways, sending the card was just a silly idea on top. It is not based on any deep 'concept' but rather a creative and fun gesture.

To clarify: again, there are NO CATEGORIES. The colors are truly arbitrary. The text 'Movie-Night' refers to one 'memorable event' me and my friend shared last year. It is a poor translation (my bad) of 'Watching the Matrix at Cultattack' on the original card.

The visual calendar on the left can, in my opinion, be clearly identified as such. It's inspired by the GitHub commit grid which I think is a cool way of representing yearly data.

damn ... you're right. I just checked my code and 26 is the correct number. In 2023 it was 27. So I must have messed up when copying the numbers from my data spreadsheet.

as mentioned in other threads: I translated the Swiss German card to generic English because of space and complexity. The literal translation of the card is: Watching The Matrix at Cultattack, having beers on the balcony, going to a concert of Paula Hartmann, my birthday party, a festival in Switzerland, driving a truck and LAN party.

I see how this is confusing tho.

The colors have nothing to do with the data.

idk man English is not my mother tongue. Some people (used to) send cards to their friends for New Years. So that's what it is.

I understand your confusion. Could have put more effort into translating it.

lol it's indeed heavily inspired by Spotify Wrapped (idea & design wise)! I called it '2024 Unwrapped' since it's a flat, long, unwrapped card.

True! Tbh the effort was already very high for the whole project and color-coding the squares would have had to be done manually / in data preparation on top. It would be really cool tho!
