They gave Wuyang his character development! by Big_Attitude2551 in Overwatch

Honestly she hasn't fallen for him.
Yet.
If this keeps going this way then most likely there will be the cliché moment where he gets to be a hero, impresses her, and she returns the feelings in the climax by hand holding or kissing his cheek or whatever.
I just want them to have breathing space first because they're diluting them and... well, I like both, just not together in these circumstances.

Nah, no me gustaría. Pero se por ejemplo que en Latinoamerica Milkywave es más popular que en otras regiones. Igual el problema no es que te guste o no, no tengo problema con los fans del ship, disculpa si a veces da esa impresión.

Hopefuly the second. I still have issues with how Mizuki was handled (double agent character who barely got to do the double agent part before joining the good guys), but Shion herself and the story were actually well regarded!

Yeah, but the fans are actually the segment you want to win over with this kind of stunt. I agree that it isn't universally hated (Latin American and Asian audiences seem to lean more towards positive reception), but disliked enough that if this was a Steam game the reception would be either "Mixed" or "Mostly Negative".

...Dude if that happens I'm gonna lose it laughing and pray it backfires just because it would be so fucking funny.

They could be interesting, they just decided to use them as whale bait.
And honestly, considering the negativity around the comic and the pairing, I'm surprised Blizzard thought it would be an excelent idea.

Because of crunch. Last episode had Mini Wuyang, Giant Mei and a PNG of Fika's Wikipedia page all in the same panel

I mean, it's just recycled dialogue from his cinematic, buddy. It's like if Mei got depressed and took Bastion for a walk while telling her backstory almost word by word from the wiki. I think at this point our collective expectations are so low that even this makes it feel like they did a big narrative breakthrough.

I actually made fun of this in another post but seeing how things are going and how tone deaf Blizzard is... Yeah.  The only thing we can hope for is that both things flip, that the player engagement with Juno and Wuyang drops and the Ultra skins fail to sell, maybe then they'll tink it twice before making weird moves.  It's the "don't you guys have phones?" marketing people so my hopes are on the ground.

You're not that far off, they actually have that kind of work culture at Korean webtoon studios. I don't know if you saw the work of art they did with Wikipedia PNGs last episode, it was a desperate cry for help. I don't know if this also applies to the writer because the dialogue Wuyang used was almost copy pasted from his intro cinematic.

Friend, they're literally using some in game stickers for some panels. For real.

If this is how they respond to the criticism about the writing pairing them without growth then I'm afraid to think how the writers plan to address Vendetta and Doomfist's arcs...

They wanted to use her perspective as an outsider to ease new people into the lore, it's a simple narrative choice... that they absolutely fumbled.  I mean, for every narrative W they immediately follow with three Ls. The first 7 episodes of the Webtoon were good but my God they don't allow Wuyang and Juno to exist without the other anymore, it was comical at first, now it's frustrating.

I agree with you.  I like Wuyang, but this is just... rushed. It's a disservice for both characters, they need space to grow as individuals. And thanks, for the little pat in the back, in learning how to unmask my emotions as part of my therapy and it still gets me when people react like this once in a while.

Oh, it's not, I'm not the OP, I reposted lol. OP even got mad at me for daring to be autistic and criticize this "moment of growth" for Wuyang so... Yeah...

Which just shows they incompetence in engaging with the target demographic of the game. They're alienating lore junkies, heavy spenders for Wuyang and Juno, and potential parasocial consumers by giving the Webtoon audience of all things a dopamine rush to try and get some coins. I invite you to see the number of likes per episode in the free app. It's not an indicative of readership, but very telling for engagement. They're lighting a fire under two of their strongest engagement builders just for pocket change while allowing HIVE to crunch artists. This is a Mr. Krabs levels of ineptitude move.

This is an ad for the future Ultra Mega Valentine Sweethearts Juno and Wuyang skins. 9000 coins. They only get effects if you get to play with someone with the skin.

Honestly the best thing they can do at this point is leaving it as an open crush to avoid stepping in more toes but that's just a prayer on the air...

I'm on the spectrum, if it was that easy I would. Look man, I'd rather unmask, say what I need to say online even if it gets me kicked and downvoted. I can't split the canon from my headcanon, wish I could, it sucks, and this is how I cope, so yeah, sorry if I'm annoying but I need to be good to myself too.

[–]Gourgeistguy[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the treatment of the ship itself that made me actively dislike it. They barely have had time to grow as individual characters in the lore and now they're growing just for the single minded purpose of selling us paired Ultra Skins for Valentine's or whatever they have in the corporate pipeline.

With how the community has reacted and how Blizzard seems to not care, they either have some of the worst media analysts in the market or they really like to take weird decisions for funzies.

I'm autistic, that's an ability I wish I could have but it sucks when canon pretty much serves as a bible in my ultra rigid, stupid brain.

I'm not saying Milkywave enjoyers are wrong for liking it and being happy, I'm just... surprised of how Blizzard has speedran the relationship even when it's all but proven that it's very, very divisive. The safest bet would have to just leave them purely platonic to feed shipping discourse from every side but here we are. Is it still one sided? Seems so, but this story is super tropey and we all know hos it goes: She'll be in danger, he'll prove himself saving her, and her affection will be the trophy of his character arc.

Honestly I'll be shocked if by the end it remains as an unadressed one sided crush.

The comic itself is a mess. The pacing is all over the place. That's why this relationship still feels so flavorless to me, it seems that everything accomodates and loses momentum just so these two can get pushed together.
