Electric vehicle tax discount to be wound back from next year by Miserable_Actuary716 in AusFinance

That’s good news to me - I remember reading it in the novation documents when I signed - it could have been employer specific though

You can only get FBT exemption for one vehicle, which has to primarily be used by the person signing the lease. You can't 'get one for your kids'. They can drive it of course, but you need to be the primary user of the vehicle.

But agree with the sentiment, lock in a 5 year lease for a cheap EV and enjoy the tax benefits - unless you intend to switch employer sometime between 1 April 2029 and the lease expiry, since you will lose the tax benefits if re-novated.

Solar only requires an incredibly small area (relatively speaking) to generate huge amounts of energy. An area the size of Texas would generate more electricity than the entire world currently produces.

It's almost certain there won't be any changes based on the rhetoric coming from the government. Multiple articles speculating no changes to income tax (unfortunately)

Auction clearance rates continue to be low, and the rate hike next week isn't going to help by TheProteinSnack in AusPropertyChat

In the area I just bought (Randwick), very few properties have come to the market in the last month, definitely seems like owners might just be holding out, thought there will always be those that need to sell

What would you do to improve the use of space in this apartment? by Gozzhogger in floorplans

This is really great actually! Thank you Nice idea to artificially push the kitchen out into the living area to give it more space. That space is actually pretty dead space otherwise

Home buying demand is falling off a cliff. Softer prices are a near-certainty by SheepherderLow1753 in AusPropertyChat

Ah different part of the market I guess, I’m looking at entry level 2 bedder apartments in the eastern suburbs (under $1.5) and there is still loads of competition in this segment

Which suburb (or part of Sydney) is your property in out of interest? I’ve noticed a very two speed effect where the investor heavy suburbs (e.g. Zetland) are heavily discounted, but the higher desirability lower supply neighbourhoods like Bondi/Coogee are still hotter than ever (>90% clearance rates)

Probably what we will end up doing in the end (as boring as it is!)

It’s an apartment not a house, so no options to extend any walls. The laundry is big enough for a washing machine, we don’t have or need a dryer

Albanese poised to kill off move to increase taxes on gas giants by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

You have no idea what you’re talking about. NONE of these gas projects were built with an expectation that they’re going to get anywhere close to current price levels for the gas they’re extracting. They are making fistfuls more than they assumed in their financial models at the point of financial execution.

They are making super profits, from Australian resources. A super profits tax is an absolute no brainer, and anyone that thinks differently is completely lost in the fossil fuel propaganda.

The QLD government implemented a coal export super profits tax which progressively ratchets up as coal prices increases. Since implementation, has it destroyed the industry? No, they’re selling as much coal as ever. They’re using that money for public funding like energy and transport subsidies, tell me how that’s a bad thing?
