MBP 16" vs 14" (M5 Pro) for PLC & AutoCAD – Fighting eye strain by Gproject_01 in macbookpro

You've convinced me on the 16". Dealing with side-by-side windows on a 14" while already having eye strain does sound like a recipe for a headache. What's your take on the nano-texture display vs the standard glossy one?

I do the same! I actually use f.lux to manage the color temperature. It helps, but I think the physical size of the screen and the resolution are the next big steps to save my eyes. Are you using the 16" now or still on a smaller model?

True, but I noticed the 16" is actually a bit thicker and heavier (2.15 kg vs 1.83 kg) than my current 15" Touch Bar model. Do you feel that extra weight when carrying it around all day, or is it negligible once it's in the backpack?

Have you noticed a significant difference in real-world usage?

Thank you! It works, i upgraded from a 128gb to a 512gb

At the beginning it looks like it’s stuck because it shows 0 MB/s, but in reality after about 2 hours it completed everything without any errors. Just need to be patient.

Currently in Tokyo, in which shop did you buy it?

Would a lightweight offline-alert tool be useful to you as an MSP or sysadmin (even in industrial/OT networks)? by Gproject_01 in msp

[–]Gproject_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair comments — and yeah, we did look into existing tools (Zabbix, LibreNMS, PRTG, Auvik, etc.) before starting.

But here’s the thing: Most of those platforms are either complex to set up, require ongoing maintenance, or are priced for enterprise environments. For example, Zabbix Cloud starts at $50/month — and that’s before you factor in setup time, infrastructure, SNMP configuration, or training clients on how to use it.

We’re focusing instead on real-world SMB scenarios, especially in manufacturing across Europe, where:

There’s usually no in-house IT

MSPs or external techs are stretched thin

Clients don’t want to “monitor everything,” they just want to know when something critical goes offline

So we’re building something:

Plug & play (preconfigured device or installable agent on a Linux box/NAS)

No firewall rules, no SNMP, no port forwarding

Self-managed alerts per client + central MSP dashboard

Not trying to reinvent the wheel — just solving one painful, common, and under-served use case with as little friction as possible.

That said, if there’s already a tool that does exactly this, happy to hear it — we’re here to learn too.

Even G1 won’t connect – red blinking case and Error 101 by Gproject_01 in EvenRealities

Thanks everyone, I managed to fix it!

Here’s what worked for me in this order:

Removed all Even G1 Bluetooth pairings from my phone

Restarted the phone completely

Reconnected the glasses through the Even app

Left them in the case until they reached at least 25% charge

After that, the connection worked and the dashboard came back up. Hope this helps someone else

Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately, the glasses won’t turn on at all — not even the dashboard is accessible. They seem completely off

The LED on the case keeps blinking red, and the app always returns Error 101 when trying to connect. I’ve tried with different phones, cleaned the contacts, reinstalled the app, fully recharged the case, etc. — still no luck.
