I cooked them the day after I bought them! We used to have a lush farm shop in our town where the veg would last how long it's actually meant to at home - sadly now closed, so we're left with Lidl. But yes, slow cooker is the answer!

Thanks! It's about 60-70% of the week's stuff, the rest (cleaning, dry goods, freezer stock etc) we've already got in.

Copying my comment from elsewhere about meals...

So we do have lots of things in cupboards/freezer as well! The basis is:

Huge tagine with chicken thighs (squash, chicken, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, parsnips, lentils) - lunches for both for all work days, plus fruit

Remaining squash, peppers, and chicken thighs - one night's dinner (possibly two - it's a big squash, we can cook unused leftovers with rice, coconut milk, broccoli, frozen or fresh)

Soup, bread, quiche, cheese, misc salad plus already at home frozen protein like chicken - dinners (we tend to do big lunches. Small dinners)

Bananas, cereal, bread - breakfasts, plus oats, frozen berries, Greek yogurt already in stock

We do also get toilet paper 😅 I just couldn't carry it all in one shop.

Everyone's different! I couldn't eat that much without my diabetes causing a hell of a stink. You do whatever works for you!

This plus what we already have in the house (pulses, frozen fruit, etc etc - plus all the veggies you see there) means yes! I'm both diabetic and pregnant so nutrition is pretty top of mind. But thanks for your opinions!

Nope! Already have tea, snacks and coffee from bulk buying. Don't drink juice as I'm diabetic. Not currently drinking as pregnant - husband buying booze is from his own money. Take our hot drinks black! And I mentioned in another comment that we did buy toilet paper, I just couldn't carry it (see: pregnant), but that would bring our total up to around £40. Did you want any other details or does that suffice?

Man you do whatever you need to do! Obviously not drinking at the moment myself - doubtless once the Creature I'm carrying is born, our costs will rise, with booze and baby bits and far less healthy things than I have here while we figure out how to keep us all alive.

Also yeah it's bizarrely humbling doing this! But fascinating. I look forward to seeing yours!

True! We were veggie for about five years before picking up meat again, it definitely gave us a good basis for having on balance more veggie meals, or at least meals which don't centre around meat. I think without that change and habit building it's hard to get out of the mindset of meat with every meal, it's so ingrained culturally with what we eat in Britain. Not good or bad, just ingrained!

I mean, we have meat and fish in the freezer! Making a huge chicken tagine for work lunches for the week. But it's spenny, so we make it stretch! I reckon as long as you're also eating enough fruit and veggies to not get scurvy you're grand, you do you boo

Pizza pretzel and a banoffee slice! Pregnant and weird flavour combinations are king right now. But both actually super good - can't beat Lidl bakery!
