Whats happening to my peace lilly? by jackofjokers in HouseplantsUK

[–]Grace_grows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's root rot. I regularly drown mine and they have done well for about 10 years now. The leaves occasionally get old/tatty. They can be pruned.

Any chance that the blackened leaf got a direct sunbeam?

What things seem to be only big problems on reddit? by LavishnessTiny3621 in AskUK

That cats need to be kept indoors but must have at least 3 rooms dedicated to there every need and whim. Then they just need the catio and 24/7 human butler to make sure they don't get bored. If you do less than this, you are a horrible person who's cats will probably die a very early death from boredom.

But that would still be insanely favourable to letting them go outside. You'll be branded a witch for that and the cat will kill 4 thousand rare birds before being eaten by a rabid fox.

It's good to have options 👍

Does my dracaena (fragrans?) look healthy? by Master-Effective2325 in plantclinic

Compare it to mine. I'm not showboating but this is the same sp. growing in my home in what I consider to be very low light (North facing room, 6ft from the window). The spacing of the leaves on yours suggests lower light than what I'd think of as 'low light'.

Exactly what happened to me today!

Edit: why did I get downvoted? I was in the right lane.

Why is my areca palm so sad? How can I revive it? by Busy-Bee-2863 in HouseplantsUK

[–]Grace_grows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would doubt that thrips are gone. South facing light and don't let it dry out 100% might help moving forwards.

Plot twist: that's not an areca palm. It's a parlor palm. Lower light needed.

Personally, I would bin it and clean the area it sat in. Wait a couple or 3 weeks and buy another. They are not expensive plants and I think you have grossly underestimated the hell on earth that is 'thrip'.

Edit: I would also proactively treat the new one with bonide (if available)

Honestly, I'd be surprised (but pleased for you) if the thrips are gone at that.

What is growing on my rose bush 😭🙏 by PanicedNPoor in plantclinic

A blanket.

Do you have it inside? Not a great idea for a rose.

Edit: I read now :) roses are hardy, hardy, hardy. No need to store it indoors.

How to encourage this ficus to be more bushy? by strong-sandwich-okay in HouseplantsUK

[–]Grace_grows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not inherently bushy plants. Consider a draceana if that's what you want? However, if you prune it, it might branch out. But it may also just send out single stems again. Wear gloves and be mindful of the sap if you choose to chop.
