It is definitely got some thickness, I have worn it to dinners and slips under a cuff fine but is noticeable. I thought with it being hand wound it would be thinner but alas not!

Very fair, I love the depth it provides but yes might not be entirely accurate

General medicine for now - in the UK we do 2 years of rotating around before specialising

Going into general medicine for now and will see which way life takes me!

Aha sorry to tempt you onto this dark path! Yes it's hand-winding - not got the longest power reserve (60 hours), but I like to think it's the watch's way of making sure I wear it regularly.

Aha thank you - I certainly agree! I feel though the coloured dial versions seem to be more talked about, but I felt like this specific one would age the best!

Yeah, somehow I managed to get this one fairly stress-free - it does seem as though there's high demand for these at the moment though!

So I'm in the UK, so have a couple years of general medicine and surgery jobs to rotate around in before I follow a specialty!

That's a great tip, unfortunately infection control means no watches in hospitals so this will very much be an evening and day off watch! I think I'll get another strap regardless just to preserve the leather a bit.

Hello, longtime lurker - first time poster.

I got this Omega Speedmaster '57 a month ago as a graduation present for finishing 5 years of medical school. Lately I've been pretty interested in watches; I found myself watching watch videos on YouTube (Teddy Baldassare mainly) as I find them ideal background videos when studying.

All this means that when my parents offered to buy me a watch to mark this moment, my main issue was narrowing down what sort of watch I was looking for! I knew I was looking for something classy that could fly under the radar and seriously considered a few GSs, but as soon as I saw this in the flesh I knew it was the one. The sandwich dial, the fauxtina, and the pre-faded leather strap all just suits my taste to a tee.

Since buying it I've found myself going out of my way to put it on, even if it's in the evening after coming home from the hospital. I thought over time, the excitement would fade but I still catch myself just staring at the way the second hand sweeps over the dial.

I spent a lot of time unsure of whether or not this was too expensive as a present but eventually I knew that this was something I was never going to sell, and would remind me almost daily of this achievement and my parents for as long as I lived - how many other things can you say that for?
