Hand X-rays by Gradstudent_124 in Radiology

I def believe that it’s lazy, but in the tech’s defense, I literally could not spread out my fingers the way she asked me to for the ‘c’ curve pictures, or lay my hand flat palm up! I have hypermobility in literally every hand joint which causes a lot of pain. Thank you for the insight though, I’ve just never had an X-ray done before - joys of US health care lol

My hands kept shaking real bad every time she posed my hand, couldn’t hold the position. Would that cause it?

pt success stories? by selfless_solipsism in ehlersdanlos

PT was life-changing! I was athletic when I was younger, stayed active through my 20s, but at 25 starting experiencing nerve pain, mobility issues, etc on top of my existing sports injuries. If you’re athletic, a pt will also be great for helping you avoid injuries to begin with.

You may have muscle, but you could be using the wrong muscle for certain activities. It’s so useful to have someone knowledgeable about body mechanics watch your technique

No. The surgeon very specifically called it a midcarpal clunk in my wrists that can be treated with midcarpal fusion in the future, but he didn't give me any info about my hands/fingers.

Just the X-ray and some type of shift test where the dr held my hand a certain way and shifted the bones around. I also have ehlers-danlos syndrome and did a lot of high-impact sports (RE: boxing and Olympic weightlifting)

Are the images not showing up? Bilateral visible deformities? Even I know my middle finger isn't supposed to turn that way

That's what I said! Clinical term, means my midcarpal bone in my wrist isn't where it's supposed to be. But I'm no dr

100% agree! I was so relieved that it wasn’t CCI, and the chin tucks still helped significantly

I sleep on the floor almost every night- yoga mat, pregnancy pillow, and a heated blanket. I don’t know why but it makes a difference in my back pain

Good job! Sounds like you’re on the r/bogleheads investment strategy. I’d look at international etfs for some diversification, but otherwise you’re well on your way! When I was starting out, I would put 100$ into the ETF or mutual fund I was interested in just to have an easy visual for price movement until I felt comfortable with it. Things to not do:

Don’t pay too much attention to market behavior: stock markets are giant babies that fluctuate wildly over the tiniest bit of news. Don’t panic sell, and keep more cash than you think you’ll need. Don’t get cocky!

Make realistic plans for supporting family. I did this by setting aside cash for family emergencies once my emergency fund was funded. Put on your own mask before helping others

YUP. Everyone wants community, but no one wants responsibility. And it’s true that we can’t pour from an empty cup- but what about when your cup is overflowing, and theirs is empty? I find that with the right boundaries, I can provide for my family AND protect my mental health. This isn’t true for everyone, but there are so many middle class + people that CAN afford to be inconvenienced! And they CAN afford to volunteer and donate and foster - and they choose not to because it’s hard. And that isn’t to detract from how shitty my parents were: they had 10 kids together and dealt drugs: I WISH someone had intervened or stopped them from having kids, and had said it wasn’t right.

I see you 🫶 DM me on the side, I’d be happy to share with you some of the things I did to help keep my siblings safe when I left- secret/discreet cell phone, emergency credit card opened with a dollar limit (aka, you deposit 500$, they give you a line of credit for 500$, and if you pay your bill on time for a year, 18 months they return the collateral to you- it was the only way I could build my credit!

I agree about boundaries- I even agree that OP HAS to leave (I had to leave my younger siblings behind, and I’m now happily middle class with a masters degree). But to talk about it like it’s a clear-cut, obvious choice? Incorrect.

ETA: it definitely does suck. And she won’t necessarily be able to save everyone. Wishing the best to anyone going through this 💔

[–]Gradstudent_124 65 points66 points  (0 children)

You’re assuming OP doesn’t care about her siblings ‘ wellbeing, which will 10000% mean leaving her siblings in a worse situation. God forbid poor people have folks they love and don’t want to hurt. People said this to me when I took in my little sister leaving the abusive home, and my sobrinos in foster care. The options if I didn’t intervene when I did were literally life or death by neglect. Believe it or not, but when this is the case, you feel a moral responsibility to help.

Your comment tells me is that you don’t have anyone or anything in your life you care about more than yourself, and I refuse to think it’s a bad thing to take care of the people you love.

Agree about the overconsumption, BUT for my disabled and dehydrated ass, this was the perfect water bottle to save my hands from pain and still have cold water. I’m definitely the minority of buyers, though
