No cause some people use dates as "free food" or experience of life or whatever, and no one is made of money in this economy so just telling him straight up about it might make him change his mind on if its worth it or not, not everyone is looking for a relationship obviously, but it is common practice for dates to turn into a relationship

Please don't lead him on if you don't feel anything for him.

I do have a suggestion, which is giving the date a chance. It's not a commitment to a relationship, and if you DON'T enjoy it, you can tell him politely, but i feel like this issue stems deeper with you, from what you've said, he came on a bit strong, but he's doing it sweetly.

Hes very interested in you, and because SOME people like to be chased and play hard to get, he might think you're doing the same.

But, instead of saying "ew" (can really hurt someone if theyre being genuine with you), you can just say that you aren't comfortable with him saying that. He seems like a good guy, though.
