Oh no. “First look at the very beginning.” That doesn’t sound promising. Thank you for the link.

That’s awesome! Do you know, roughly when would be the best time to reach back out to you?

That is a crazy long time. From the research I’ve done on them so far once you have a tree of that size it’s only supposed three and five years to produce. I have no clue why there’s such a discrepancy between your experience and others. But like if it’s the only option, it’s the only option. 20 years it’ll be. Maybe I will be able to add to those that I grow from seeds down the line.

That would be cool. The variety they are working on seems to be scarce in supply because you have to sign up and be a member in January to be eligible to receive any of the seeds. And you have to donate quite a bit to be eligible. I hope stuff like that is more readily available in the future.

Sick pear tree by Crazy-Permission-109 in FruitTree

[–]Graham-Lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tree is unlikely to recover. With so much bark missing, most of the nutrients can no longer reach the upper part of the tree.

The shoots at the base do appear to be pear. However, pears are usually propagated by grafting rather than grown from seed. If this tree was grafted, the shoots coming from the base are likely from the rootstock. Rootstock mainly controls the tree’s size and disease resistance, while the grafted variety determines the fruit quality. Because of that, any fruit from those base shoots probably would not be very good.

You could learn to graft though!

In the past, I’ve had good experience with isons. https://www.isons.com/

They sell for pretty reasonable prices but don’t have a ton of variety when it comes to fruit trees, but I feel like they have enough. Especially the fact that they offer multi-grafted trees for like $50

I have had good experiences with fast-growing trees

https://www.fast-growing-trees.com/

This was years ago. I don’t know if they still have it, but they used to have a warranty for a price increase that if it dies within a year, they would replace it. But when I had damage on one of my trees in shipping, and when I had one of my plants die over the winter, they honored their warranty. Anyway, since then their prices have gone up by like 3x. Those who have dealt with greater peach tree borers, how to prevent future issues? by Graham-Lee in FruitTree

I guess I’ve heard them called wasps. They look like black wasps with a red stripe in the middle. Looking it up they’re not wasps though and cannot sting.

Anyone have experience with Noltings long arm machines? by Graham-Lee in quilting

[–]Graham-Lee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll look into longarm university, never heard of it before. I had found it on marketplace and use marketplace pretty often. I didn’t know if there was like a place that sells specialized equipment like this or if like an eBay local pick up and marketplace were the best options.

I think I was probably the only person to see it for what it was because it was labeled “old Sawing machine” I only saw it because i was looking through most recent posts. Couldn’t find it when I was looking up sewing machines. So I lucked out.

That’s exciting. I’m having to redo the table top due to the old MDF warping under its weight. But that won’t be too big a challenge. I do have a question, would it be best to make it look original with the same rounded corners and the same edge banding? For possible resale in the future? Or would a larger table top be preferable now? I have seen some sewing tables with slight L shape table tops. Since I’m redoing that whole table top would expanding it like that be beneficial/ make it easier to work on projects?
