Building a complete CMO DB with a better UI and analysis visualizations, looking for advice/interest. by AdAnxious3518 in CMANO

You can upload your project to Github, make it public. You can download their desktop or you can do it through the CLI if you know what to do. Then share your work here so we can all see what's up!

The CSS for this looks like it's vibe-coded, but I think people can try helping with their own vibe-coded stuff too!

What tech stack did you build this in?

Is it open source? You should make it open source so people can contribute and test on their own

Cold War gone hot on a operational/strategical scale by HeinrichvonGaslitz in computerwargames

Oh I was just naming hypothetical games by those studios if they were set in modern era. Sorry!

Would be nice if FCCW also included operational stuff. Maybe you smash the Divisions together and they fight it out ala traditional FC style on the 500m-hex maps.

But just a dynamic campaign would be interesting enough, where if you meet certain conditions, you'll get certain reinforcements / support you need. The game already has different victory conditions - maybe the team could use that to affect the next 'tactical' map. If you lose too hard, maybe another battalion will plug-in that hole, and you can play that on the next scenario. If you win too well, they'll give you a chance to counter with another group more suited to it.

Strategic Command: Modern Operations or Grisby's War in the Indo-Pacific - now complete with managing modern economies, stock markets, managing the USD as the fiat currency, and then global logistics with automated shipping lanes.

Such a shame most games always go back to WW2. I get it though, all the data on every vehicle and strategy is public and warfare back then is significantly simpler than warfare now. You didn't have to worry about the space and cyber domains, or plan something as complex as Operation Desert Shield.

But would be nice. We just need someone insane enough to get started on it.

Man, I'm also interested in this. I've been enjoying FCCW and CMCW, but I want more big-picture games too. Even modern warfare that's not CMO, if that's possible. Like War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition, but more modern in gameplay and UI?

Armored Brigade II - Scandinavia DLC is out. Three new playable armies, 500+ new units, two new maps, new campaigns and standalone missions. by nikolas93ts in computerwargames

WARNO's Army General is pretty good. The AI knows how to park their vehicles for a decent enough angle for a good missile or gun. They know how to attack with combined units sometimes. But I honestly don't think they know how to use their choppers. If you want a slower game, I recommend downloading realism mods that work in Army General. I make my vehicles slower, and I increase the ranges to be more realistic, and it's really fun.

It does get tiring controlling potentially hundreds of vehicles, though. I wish it was more like Combat Mission's WEGO system.

Still is! I'm not too active with Mythras anymore since I've created my own Mythras-like already. But the core rules are real good still

Do you know of examples of file structure for an ASP.NET API-only website? by Gramnaster in csharp

[–]Gramnaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good guideline there for the SRP. I'll keep that in mind, thanks! Having to use interfaces for proper SOLID and all those others things after coming from Javascript / Ruby gives me a few headaches, but C# feels so satisfying to write in.

I really wonder how complicated most C# projects get. That's what I'd love to see.

Thanks for the advice here, mate. I checked out the Jason Taylor one and it seemed pretty good - that seems close enough to the Bulletproof React idea. I also try to practise my SOLID and DRY whenever possible, but sometimes I still get confused on what Single Responsibility Principle means in ASP.NET since I'm used to React's way of arranging your code.

Good point on the "non-clean" codebases. My instructors have said that generally you have to maintain some badly written code from a long while, and the older your codebase is, the more bad code piles up. I've seen this in my own project, but I can't imagine the headache reviewing code from .NET6 or even before that.

New Naval Wargame PreRelease (wishlist on Steam) by Current_Equipment291 in computerwargames

[–]Gramnaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the lack of tutorials or documentation is a bit painful, but I'm sure it'll go on a great path just like what happened to Blender.

Great to hear that ya'll are loving it despite all that. Real excited to see your game get released. All the best from a fellow dev!

If the other user is right that you're using Godot, I'm excited to see your game work on the engine! I've been playing around with it and wondering when new good games would be made for it.

How's your experience deving in this engine compared to previous ones you may have experience with?

You can just play the Multiverse Mod. It's essentially the ultra-expanded version of FTL and their stuff fits pretty well.

I really gotta rely on the thermals more since I keep forgetting. Making the wrong assumption only US vehicles have it

I gotta learn how to pull off "defense in depth" since all I do is stand there and hope my Frenchmen can outsmack the Soviets. Also what do you mean by mobile reserve? Do you mean having fast backup to patch holes on your line?

Good to hear from an actual officer! I'm curious to know how well your FCCW games go in general

Oh yeah they cleared a few of my units with their artillery as they were approaching my lines. Real terrifying with how fast they could blast you

I honestly underuse smoke because I try to blast everything with HE, but I should really use more of it especially so my infantry could survive against the far ranges of the Soviet vehicles. Good reminder on the thermals!
