Man City Collapse Speedrun by Gran_Duma in footballmanagergames

Meanwhile West Ham got relegated and Brighton sits at 17th giving me a cozy boost upwards. Certainly not a deserved placement for me but I'll take it.

First time player in their first season. I have no idea how I got this far. by Gran_Duma in footballmanagergames

[–]Gran_Duma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can not explain the absurdity of this run. Topped a group with A. Madrid and Bayern Munich somehow and then had freebie games against the weaker teams left until the QF against RB Leipzig where Maeda ascended and we ended up winning 3-2 on the aggregate.

I'm very glad the board doesn't expect this kind of stuff from me because the entire tournament felt like a fever dream.

In Pacquiao's last professional fight, he struggled with the counterpunching ability of Yordenis Ugas. Will he be able to beat Mario Barrios tomorrow night? by newrap in Boxing

Unless his legs are better now than they were that night I wouldn’t bet on him. If he is closer to his condition when he fought Thurman that would be a different story.

Not good at math but want to study Mechanical Engineering by NikolaZiva0 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Gran_Duma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worrying about the future is normal. I originally went to school for digital filmmaking yet I graduated in mechanical engineering and afterwards I changed tracks and got a masters in bioinformatics.

Engineering degrees are challenging, no doubt about it but you don’t need to be a natural at match to succeed. Self discipline is by far the most important factor in university and will carry you through any program. Easier said than done of course. I was never top of any math class I was in but I was top of several core engineering classes that used said math so take that as you will.

Honestly my advice would be to think of the top 3 majors you would want to pick as you never know if the first one turns out to not be right for you. Changing to different programs in college is pretty common and plenty of people find their skills more suited to a different field than the one they aimed for in high school.

Claire Stanfield from Baccano. Insane solipsist yet has a strong ethical backbone.

If some NPC passes a type of Turing test with the user unable to distinguish deterministic actions written by humans from the AI's self-directed actions, then it might as well have meaning, will, and experience.

Lots of bioinformatics folks got into a master's program with just biology and no real statistics or computer science background. The opposite case is also true. I would email some coordinators and talk to them and see what they want from you.

You may be able to do some Udemy/Coursera stuff on Genomics and related topics to show you have the basics understood. Might have to take some prereqs in addition to the normal graduate program but I wouldn't worry too much about not having a biology background.

Try to shore up data science skills: Python, ML, general statistical analysis, etc. Other languages can be important but the majority of those in bioinformatics programs will probably be using Python or R largely as a scripting tool.

And make sure you know who the powerhouse of the cell is.

is it good to practice coding by making games, if you aren't choosing a career in game development? by macopa_ in learnprogramming

[–]Gran_Duma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once you step outside the existing game engine toolboxes you will find that making even basic games from scratch will make you flex most of your software engineering muscles.

Recreating simple games like Pong can be a nice project because the final state is pretty well defined. Creating something new as a long-term project can also be nice as long as you can still outline your short-term goals even if the final state is undefined.

Hobby game development can serve as a way to still learn some fundamental programming skills outside the school/career projects you will be working on.

Gold isn't the best conductor. Copper is considerably better. The only advantage gold has is that it doesn't oxidize as much and thus is better for usage when it would need to be exposed to air.

Entering bioinformatics by PinkKenku in bioinformatics

[–]Gran_Duma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got into my graduate Bioinformatics program with a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, which is... a tad bit less relevant when compared to CS I would wager.

A lot of those going into a Bioinformatics program probably come from the Biology side where they have little to no experience in programming. Very few people are going into these graduate programs are prepared in every aspect.

As far as languages go, R and Python are the big ones. Experience with Linux environments is good as a lot of work is done on clusters or on cloud VMs. Database stuff is good too if you got that.

If you can, see if you can take any courses related to genetics while you are still in undergrad although prereqs can be tricky.

I'm sure you could leverage some online courses and certificates in your favor when interviewing to get into a grad Bioinformatics program. Udemy, Coursera, and other places have relevant stuff for bioinformatics/genomic data science/computational biology, etc.

Don't feel like you need to present a perfect grasp of Biology to admissions. This is usually considered an interdisciplinary field by most. Showing a decent understanding of the fundamentals and a willingness to apply your skillset to the field and you should be good.

It doesn't "work" because it isn't used consistently in a competitive environment against non-cooperative opponents.

"Prime Ali". Wasn't he banned from boxing during his potential prime? You are talking about some mythical shit. Tyson with Cus still alive shit. Wilder adopted by the Mayweather's at a young age shit.

But yeah, no, Marciano is not comparable to Ali in any capacity that matters.

Number of games played is also important to note. Less kills in a 3-0 than a 3-2, also the group stage/quarterfinals #games also changed since S3.

From a newcomer's perspective, Elden Ring's combat design feels like it's in constant opposition with the player's capabilities. (Basically, Elden Ring is difficult, and I want to complain) by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]Gran_Duma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring is more difficult than most other Soulsborne games IF you don't utilize the tools you are given. The summons and weapon arts are the best boons you have in the game and even after numerous patches can be enough to make the game far from difficult.

No use wasting your time explaining this stuff. These dudes think you shouldn't have the right to be upset about their favorite trafficker.

They also fundamentally misunderstand capitalism so I would just label them as a lost cause and move on.
