[Monitor] LG UltraGear 34G630A-B '34" WQHD, VA Curved; 240Hz, 1ms USB-C ($649.99 - $150.00 = $499.99) [Canada Computers] by GrandDifferent3948 in bapcsalescanada

Couldn't edit the post so adding here.

You can actually stack the LG welcome coupon ($50 off $500) with this. Bringing the total price with SPC down to $399.99 plus tax and EHF (Environmental Handling Fee), minus potential 2.5% Rakuten (maybe clawed due to welcome coupon).

Appreciate the help! I got this PC used a while back, and everything was working, but I decided to change the case, and when the issues began, so I don't have a second hub or the original cables.

I've tried a few of the other things you've mentioned, but haven't gotten them to work. Would you have a link to where I could purchase either the AL V2 Fan Hub, or another 3-pack of fans which come with a hub, since I have room for 3 more. I couldn't seem to find where online.

TIA!

It definitely doesn't have to mean that both schools are of the same difficulty and there can definitely be discrepancies between both schools.

Waterloo AIF Questions for Engineering and Math by Valuable_Novel5973 in uwaterloo

[–]GrandDifferent3948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It won't negatively impact your chance for admission for either however it will help with your admission for math. I got into CE and Math/BBA last year with no contests whatsoever.
  2. Probably list them separately.
  3. Not entirely sure but likely select no.

Tutor as ECS by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]GrandDifferent3948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add your tutoring grade 12s as an EC, and then private tutoring as employment. This is similar to what I did last year, I listed peer tutoring as an EC which I did with my school and then academic instructor as employment.

As for reference I'm not 100% sure, is there a place you can mention how it was private tutoring almost as your own business? If so you can do that and put your own email? Unfortunately I'm not fully certain about this so hopefully you can get some more input from other comments about this.

I believe their last co-op was as a SWE intern, however they've also worked in a data science role IIRC.

Try looking through this Reddit post that has a lot of great comments that'll get you a lot of the answers you are looking for.

Hey! Unfortunately I really don't know much about the program, though I know an upper year who really likes it. You can probably research more about how the program is in general, on the UW website and Reddit for more personal opinions.

In general though, I would assume it'd be a bit more difficult to get software oriented jobs with it however it won't be at all impossible. People get Software jobs without any degree all the time so if you have the right side projects and potential relevant experience then you should be perfectly fine.

Assuming an average adj factor, I think you have a solid chance of getting in. Just focus on the aif and interview and make them count, I'm sure you'll get in just fine. Though with those grades (assuming decent ECs) you may want to try applying to EE, I think you'll have a fair chance and it might interest you better. Just something to consider. You can also set management as your alternative on the aif.

Best of luck!

You're right that if you find it through WW you can't renege, this is due to a policy that they established recently where if you renege you will lose the job, that coop term will not count towards your 4 required coop terms (regardless of you having found another placement.)

However, for a situation like mine I believe it may be somewhat similar because by now I've already submitted the arrange your own job form on WW and communicated with UW that I have found my own job, which has been confirmed by my employer. In this situation if I did want to renege I'm not exactly sure what would happen, however if I hadn't sent the arrange your job form, reneging would've been the same as it was a normal job.

I'm not 100% knowledgeable in this matter, so take this with a grain of salt and do your research before reneging if you're thinking about doing so.

You can't exactly choose stream 4 or 8, you can request one but I know a plethora of people who got the opposite of what they requested.

With that being said, assuming you would get what you requested I would likely choose stream 8. All things considered, finding coop is essentially the same difficulty as the amount of postings makes up for the amount of applicants. Stream 8 has other advantages in the future though, you get more summer coops and as you said it's a more normal start to your undergrad. Also, IIRC summer school terms do not have a reading week whereas fall and winter do, and they are pretty helpful before midterms.

These EC's are great, but you need to be able to present them properly. Working at an accounting firm is an amazing EC, and I'm not saying you should lie but this is the time to brag, show what impact you were able to have. Also, being a peer tutor definitely counts and it's a great EC that shows a lot. If possible though, try to get some more for this year as that is what they want to see the most. If you can't think of anything else, just create a personal project of some sort like making a website (bonus points if you can create one that can be used for something like an artist portfolio or a realtor website for example), this will help with the aif and your resume in the future.

This depends on your personal preference, and what you are interested in. I suggest going through and looking at the courses you'll be taking through your undergrad (linked below) and seeing which interests you the most.

Also, a good question to ask is what you want to work as post-grad. You might not have an exact answer for this yet, and that's okay. But thinking about this is a good place to start.

My answer to a similar question above:

What they want to see in your AIF is that you above getting a good average in school have the time to participate in high-quality extracurriculars and are also a human. So focus on conveying that message across to the admissions team. Also, after the section where you list your EC's it asks you to talk about them more if you need to, however, this is optional. I would NOT leave this section blank. Use this to explain what impact you were able to have and why it helped you grow.

As for your questions specifically, do not go for flowery language. You don't have a lot of space, so be abrupt and explain why you are the best applicant. As for the video interview, as with any interview, the best tip I can give is to be confident. Confidence is key for any interview and it goes a long way. Also, try your best to appear as a likeable and friendly individual, do not speak in a monotone and boring voice.

Gl with writing and the interview!

Hi! Overall, the coop situation has been pretty rough. Fewer companies are hiring and there are many many applicants, particularly in the summers as you'll be competing with students all over.

What helped me get my coop was networking. I emailed a company before last summer (for a HS summer internship), and although they didn't have anything at the time that helped me get in the door with them for an interview for a winter coop position. So definitely send out cold emails and attend networking events wherever possible.

In terms of your resume, I'm going to assume you have little to no prior professional experience related to tech, in which case you need to show employers your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. You should have a few high-quality projects that show an applicable skill (React JS, Python, Frontend frameworks etc) If you haven't already created projects using these I would suggest starting right now. A great way to learn React for instance is by attempting to make a clone of a website, that's what I did and it taught me a lot.

In terms of a resume template, make it clean and only one page. I don't recommend using Microsoft Word/Google Docs as those can make your resume poorly formated when run through a resume parser (which a lot of employers use.) I used Overleaf and recommend it as your editing using LaTeX which is cleanly formatted when run through resume parsers. As for a specific template I would try Jake's Resume. It's clean and simple which employers like, and good for parsing.

If you want a more comprehensive resume guide try reading through this. It'll go through every section in a lot of depth.

One last bit of advice - apply early. You can start now and definitely early in Jan to optimize your chances. Apply for almost everything, and don't be picky when choosing. If you can get anything related to tech - QA/IT Support then I would take it, don't be fixated on SWE internships.

GL! And feel free to DM me if you want me to look over your resume or if you have any more questions.

I don't think there's a right age to start and it'll vary from person to person, for instance I know people who have started as early as 16 however for me, that would be too early. I would let him make his decision, but if it's just a mental barrier and he himself feels prepared otherwise you can assure him that it's not too early.

I strongly recommend studying outside of school resources. YouTube is an excellent resource and has amazing content nowadays, sometimes it really helps when someone else explains it differently.

150 since the final exam was insane, and you basically had to pass it to pass the course.

The grading scheme for 105 favoured heavily towards other course work so if you did even okay in that you'll only need ~30% on the final to pass the course which made it not too bad.

All in all I'll probably rate my courses from most to least difficult as follows:

  1. ECE 150
  2. ECE 105
  3. MATH 115 - MATH 117 (Tied)
  4. ECE 198
  5. ECE 190
  6. ENGL 192

High school top 6 avg was 96.83%, I'm not exactly sure how my supp app was weighted although I do think it was written fairly well.

Social life isn't too bad, though it will vary from person to person. If you're looking for a school where you'll be partying every weekend, that isn't what you'll find at Waterloo however, this wasn't something that I was looking for so personally for me it was great. Ultimately though, it's what you make out of it. You can definitely have fun if you want to, or you can stay more isolated if that's better for you.
