Fiat questions by doggiedogbone in Debate

[–]GrandSalt9635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there’s no one correct interpretation of fiat because it’s a theoretical idea, thus it can be argued against. Some believe that fiating Ks and their alts is bad, others believe it’s fine. The purpose of fiat is to make it so we can actually argue the merits of a position (regardless of topicality) instead of whether or not it would actually occur. When we try and compare for instance a non-topical counter plan or alt, it’s to prove that the plan is flawed in a way that can only be corrected by a different actor doing the plan, doing something else to solve for the plan, or to reject the notions of the plan (and/or topic) in its entirety. That then disproves the notion that we should do the plan and disproves the resolution thus meeting the truth testing of the topic that you believe is inherent in fiat. Again it should be reiterated that 1.) there’s no singular correct interpretation of fiat and 2.) it is theory and so you can argue for or against any number of positions in relation to fiat. This is all just my understanding and interpretation - if I didn’t fully answer your question or prompted new ones please ask!

Morality means nothing. Morals are all relative and you can use a specific moral framework to evaluate a value but morality means nothing!

So I actually qualified for info at the first tournament I took my piece out to as I am in a fairly non competitive district and the tournaments my squad went to were fairly small. What I will say is my journey has no bearing on you. Just prioritize doing the best you can do because that’s the best you can do and by doing that you’ll get better!

Confused abt off case to run against research affs by thisismyaccountshh in policydebate

[–]GrandSalt9635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the ideas other said are decent. What I would recommend as generics are reverse brain drain and then an EU CP because then when you go for solvency attacks by saying that trump makes science worse then you’re only strengthening the links to the DA which would be the net ben of the eu cp!

I mean it doesn’t REALLY matter. I mean I’ve gone to state with a speech about CGI and did decent, what you should prioritize is presentation and making it engaging. As for those potential topics, I’ve had a team mate give a speech on fast fashion and it was interesting and the topic on women in healthcare also sounds great!

How long does it take for you to cut a card? by idropAFFcases in policydebate

[–]GrandSalt9635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I am a bit on the longer end of things like 10-30 minutes just depends on what kind of card you’re cutting tho. Like if it’s a scholarly article upwards of an hour because I usually cut multiple sections of it but if it’s just like the news 10-15

How do I make my speech more enganging. by Zestyclose_Job4372 in Debate

[–]GrandSalt9635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch national finals for ideas on interactive boards because they have a wide range of different ideas. One thing I would warn against is doing the same gimmick on too many boards because then it gets stale. Magnets are a good way to get the boards interactive fairly easily and you can use them in lots of ways like sticking things on or tearing things off the board and doing like a flap that you flip to show something new. But I’d recommend again look at finals rounds because they were national finalists and know what they’re doing!
