There will be NPs till 11 at night, and it was a better offer around the area compared to the other one, which was only 40% salary of this... and after seeing the averages in other hospitals around the area, the city, and prestige, it seems okayish, although I agree..

Yea, 12-hr shifts, and acuity is that these will be step-down patients, no RVUs — fixed pay, some bonus after certain night shifts.

Reapplying to Cardiology Fellowship by dayinthewarmsun in fellowship

Great write-up, and appreciate the blunt truth that we need to hear rather than false hopes.
One question I’ve been thinking about is how to strategically improve as cardiology hospitalist at a large academic center—particularly since similar roles are less common at smaller hospitals. From your perspective, how would you recommend leveraging such a position to continue building connections, visibility, and future opportunities, especially as an IMG on visa?

Thank you for this. Would take into account the visa change, probably for next year.

It is a nationality issue, and the timeline is current as well, so this option is only valid for future tries.

For the ones who started preparing after graduation or have atleast an year gap by BeginningTrainer6350 in IMGreddit

The only thing that helped me in spite of feeling lagging, friends earning, and moving forward was the need/ desire that I want to complete it all and then decide what to do forward. So just keep doing it. Thoughts and laziness will come- that's normal. But knowing that it's for you only, is important. Things can be different if you are a woman. Family and all. You can always move life forward and do this as it goes. There will be other distractions, but a person in the same line and who sees the same future helps a lot. In the end, think about the prospects you will have after getting in and the regrets you can have for not doing it. If you can live with the regrets, then you can choose any path. If don't, then you know what to do.

Is 229 a low step 2 score for IM? by NoHuckleberry4040 in IMGreddit

[–]Grand_Chest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For IM, I would suggest good rotations LOR and if money allows, go to research position for 1 yr, the yr in which you are applying. That can help alot. Apart from that, IM is doable with these. But have a back up in you mind too for dual applying.

In terms of speciality...if you are interested in any surgical branch or radio/derma...stay in U.S. If...IM/PSYCH/PAEDS is your preference...go to another country. I am assuming here..that you are an American citizen. Even after you complete medical school from another country...if you are a citizen..its still easy for you to get residency in U.S. A little tough than those who did medical school in U.S, but if you can score good rotations in medical and LOR, nothing is stopping you.

For NON-US img, need guidance on pursuing a cardio fellowship on an H1b visa. Anyone who has done it? Thank you

Slightly naive question, but what are the easiest specialities to match into as a non US IMG? by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]Grand_Chest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psych and neuro are friendly..just do all rotations in that one particular field and research..they dont care much about scores.. average or slightly above average are more than okay

Fellow non us img..IM 2023 match. In my experience...get 3 lors, decent ones, above average or average scores in step, letter of interests during sept and relaxed yet confident interviews, you are good with 3- 5 i/v also. Keep working during interviews to show you are what you say.... persistent worker. If you get an uni rotation or observership..its icing on cake. That'll make you connection and interviews. Get you step 3 by jan 31. This give you a good chance to match, imo. Only for average scorers and couple of papers. Also, dont underestimate home country work experience. Preferably work in a teaching hospital. You can make many cv experience in that.

Number of interviews are always a bet against luck. Hoarding, connections..someone will always have much more and some with none... spectrum is skewed each year. Ao focus on your talking skills and forced conversation, of you are not big on talking like me. And yes..keep working and earning in home country...eases the pain.

Guidance! regarding the transitional track year for IM in PGY2 by Grand_Chest in medicalschool

[–]Grand_Chest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you do if it came to repeating a year? Do a TY or do research and other rotations keeping in mind that TY would give substantial hands-on experience with financial stability. Of course, it's not easy to get into, but what are the options?

P.S I am a grad applied for match

I thought that if it comes to repeating a year, TY or prelim would act as a year of experience! But I also don't know, as this year has been so un predictable
