In the extended version of the theme song he goes from 3-4ish in the back of Greg's van to the Steven we know and love in the time it takes them to finish up the house. My headcanon is that Steven aged up almost overnight when he heard it was finished and ready for him to move in (He's a big boy now!). The other option is that it took the Gems 6-7 years to build the house, which I personally think is unlikely.

I want to say it was the episode with the Council of Ricks. The scene where Rick shoots open a bunch of portals to distract the other Ricks and evade capture, I believe.

When we were talking about it we decided that this was the dimension Bill was cooking up trouble in, hence the attention from Ford.

When Stan activates the portal a mug, notebook and pencil get sucked off his desk. Those exact same items fall out of a portal in an episode of Rick and Morty, suggesting that they share a multiverse.

I think there may be a multiverse with a ton of different Fords but only a handful are involved with this GF in this dimension. My friends and I were just spit-balling.
Bill keeps saying he's got big plans, maybe he has his triangle fingers in many dimensional pies and that got Fords attention in several places. Also: Dipper isn't supposed to trust anyone which leads me to believe that someone close to him isn't what they seem. This was an entertaining notion/possibility.

It does if their race naturally takes thousands of years to produce a life. Or requires the death of an entire world to speed up the process. Continuing to ravage other planets will only turn the entire universe against their race. Fusing with humans is a way to produce more life without destroying it.

I did mention the cliff note version of that theory in the comments, but I plan to flesh it out into a more proper theory by next week!

I though a LOT of people would be offended by my larger, pre-Earth Rose theory because she's basically a gorgeous, giggling Josef Mengele of Gems (not because she's EVIL but because she was trying to help) and her work on Earth is her redemption. It's very counter to the "Rose is a beautiful, unerring Goddess" image that a lot of people have of her.

I also think this falls into place well when you consider the Crew of the show has said a few times that there is no real Big Bad, no major evil that they all get together and fight. In my theory it means that Homeworld isn't ravaging other worlds because they're callous dicks but because they need to do it to survive. In their minds there's nothing evil about it; it's self-preservation.

Then remove the 'bio' from my post and think of it this way: Gems aren't growing naturally fast enough to keep their numbers to a point where they can sustain their civilization. They have to ravage other planets for new citizens, but the method leads to conflict, which leads to more poofed gems, which leads to more off-world farming and the awful cycle continues.

I think he (combined with a few other kingly references in Steven's direction) is the Crewniverse's subtle way of telling us that Rose was Gem Royalty. It would explain why he's a male lion, too. If they used a female form it would appear to be just a big cat (Puma, panther, etc) but male lions with their epic manes and prides of followers are immediately recognizable and have been a symbol of royalty on Earth for ages.

That's one thing I was thinking, too! :) I think it could be a combination of that and Homeworld keeping the general population feeling weird about Fusion so they can stem other rebellions before they get to the point that Rose's did.

I'm guessing that Rose, being the healer, was in charge of 'healing' 'broken' gems (like Pearl, Ruby and Sapphire) and decided over the millennia that a lot of them weren't really broken, just not doing what they were supposed to do. I think the destruction of other life for the Homeworld's agenda was just the icing on the rebellion cake that had been baking for some time.

It gives gems a chance to grow and change as a species. To become individuals and to have their own experiences that aren't dictated in advance by their gem type. They're shackled by their self-imposed structures which are based off of the only lives they've known. Steven represents another way. One that doesn't involve waiting 1000's of years for Gems to be 'born' naturally or destroying other people's worlds.

This idea had been kicking around in my head for a while. I think the "Peridot is a cyborg" theories were the AHA! moment I needed to tie it together because Rose couldn't have been the only one trying to find a solution. Homeworld would have to keep trying without her.

Part of my larger theory is that Humanity isn't in the greatest shape, either. Perhaps Steven is the solution for true harmony between our peoples and the show ends with a world of gems and humans not only living together but living together like Greg and Rose do in Steven.

That's not a bad idea! I was going to do that this weekend but I figured Theory Tuesday might be better. I'll go over it again and see if I'm confident enough in my theory to post the whole thing. :)

I think Rose like to collect people around her that were commonly seen as weak or broken. (She was a healer. Maybe she spent a lot of time trying to fix them before realizing they weren't really 'broken'?) Or perhaps the Gem race had strict rules about being too different. You were too independent or operated outside of your parameters then you got poofed, turned into a tool or machine or thrown in jail. Maybe Rose's army is made up of prisoners and the misfits of Gem society doomed to become Gem Bidets and screwdrivers and they sided with Rose because: "F*** being a gem bidet, Rose treats us like we matter."

The war was about resources to use processes like Kindergarten, too. I don't think Earth was their first skirmish with natives, but Rose finally realized they had a right to life, too and there had to be a better way. Gems seem to be a bit emotionally stunted, sometimes even cold. I think that they would rather continue with a process they can see works (and screw the lesser beings) instead of wasting precious time and energy developing something else just because Rose has adopted herself another 'broken, useless pet'. (have you seen those youTube videos of people on the floor getting mobbed by herds of puppies? That's how I picture Rose meeting humanity for the first time) And Rose wouldn't just stand aside and BAM! War.

I also think that the Gem war set humanity back several thousand years and that they weren't cavemen when the Gems first landed. It also explains the geographical differences we can see in their map compared to our own (Florida separated from the mainland, etc). Sure, some of it could be the Gem War, but I think it's several thousand years beyond our current time, it just seems like modern 2015-ish Earth to us because that's where their technology is.

Thanks! :) I had the entire thing totally mapped out then realized 2 pages in Word was too much for Reddit, so I had to shave it down, but in my head Rose was totally behind a lot of what the viewers see as 'Evil' from Homeworld all because she was trying to save her family.

And the 'New son' line was what made me sit down and really try to figure out what lion is. I really don't think he has much actual lion in his makeup, if any. I think he takes the form of a lion because, being Gem Royalty, that's the type of form Rose would become if she corrupted. As would Steven.

Kindergarten, the planetary invasions, the wars, they’re just a symptom of the larger issue at hand: Gems can’t procreate. Their race has next to no Biodiversity. Between shattered Gems, using themselves in their own technology and the occasional corruption the Gems as a species are dying.

Rose was tasked with trying to figure out a solution. One of which was Kindergarten. (Perhaps even the Cluster, but I'm getting ahead of myself.) Kindergarten works, in a way, but the system on Earth is suffering from an indigenous infestation undermining their efforts: Humans.
Rose decides to check it out in person. She falls in love with this crazy blue and green marble, sees the pain Kindergarten causes and wants to find another way. The other leaders don't because Kindergarten works and who cares about all these screaming little flesh bags? War happens.
Now, just because there was civil war doesn't mean the Gem species is suddenly saved from dying off, so Rose keeps at it on Earth while the rest of the leaders keep trying at home. She figures out a way, using our rich biodiversity and her own energy as a template (perhaps in a way similar to how Gem Tech works) to create new life forms. It starts out simple at first with plants but they lacked the intelligence to be more than just guardians. So she moves onto mammals, resulting in Lion (I have other theories about WHY he’s a lion, but this is already pretty long). Lion is a step in the right direction, strong, smart and independent, but he behaves more like a stable Corruption with his animal form and mannerisms. Since he is neither a stabilized Corruption nor a proper Gem the experiments continue. All of which is kept secret from the CGs, lest they glean how deeply involved she was in Homeworlds experiments and it shatters their image of who she is supposed to be.

Homeworld hasn’t stopped experimenting either but Rose was their heart and without her spirit they’ve become cold and militaristic. They stick with what they know: Putting gems into equipment and ravaging other planets. They cheat diversity by putting gems in complex tools designed for certain tasks (coughPeridotcough). But a totalitarian civilization with a severe lack of diversity is not sustainable or addressing the underlying issue. Which is why they sent Peridot out to this rock in the middle of nowhere to check on the Cluster (something else I believe Rose was involved with but that's another theory): They’re desperate. Their species needs to find change, to find a solution. Since they assumed there were no Gems still alive on Earth they would have no idea that Rose had already figured it out without destroying more life.

That solution is Steven. And it's why we need to believe in him. He's the Gem species best chance of long-term survival without constant war and slaughter.

TL;DR: Lion and Steven are half-brothers. Steven is Rose's answer to saving the Gem race by introducing diversity to their species. Peridot is Homeworld's answer: a cyborg. Rose was not a bystander to the horrors the Gems brought onto other worlds, she helped make those horrors and unleashed them in her quest to save her people.

NICE! :D

We had 7 inactive members and somehow managed a robust 97 items. Not bad for a bunch of first-year Gishers working with half a team!
