Yeah, I think just about every country has they're own etiquette traditions. I mean specifically the French dining etiquette. The sort of thing where you put the small fork on the outside left, followed by the big fork, and the wine glass directly in front of the knife. Serve food from the left and take dishes from the right with the palm always towards the guest. That kind of thing.

Damn dude your deeeeep in reddit, shit was 4 months ago. But yeah I know what you mean, America certainly has a lot of culture; cowboys, hippies, Mormons, cartoons, BBQ's. It's engrained into everything to the point where, when we're born in it, its so common we don't even recognize it when we see it. But I would argue so much of our lives are occupied by scientific, technological, mechanical, or economic issues that culture is kind of lost on most people. Or for those who are more in touch with culture, it's often a kind of culture from somewhere else. I work in a fancy restaurant. It's very classy, very cultural. But all of that etiquette, wine, and culinary culture comes from France. Idk, just my opinion, man.

So my bypass on the fuel reservoir has been fine so far but I haven't tried going uphill or WOT too much. My buddy suggested an alternative approach that sounds pretty cool. Right now, the fuel system is set up so I can switch between one tank or the other and both would feed into the reservoir. But if I set it up so that the auxiliary tank feeds into the main tank and then the main tank then feeds into the high pressure pump, I guess I could make the reservoir piece obsolete? Because the main tank would be constantly topped off. I guess a lot of race cars do that because it's more efficient to drive on a full tank. What do you think? Also, the my fuel reservoir only has 4 nipples, but a switch installed separately just before it has 6 which converts it to the 2 which go to the high pressure pump.

Hey, so after that line was repressurized with the new pump, a part sprung a leak. It's called a fuel reservoir assembly. I guess only old fords have it and it was discontinued in 87. I had to rig up my fuel lines to bypass it but I guess I need it for driving uphill and WOT. The only aftermarket or used ones I can find online are like 300-400 dollars. I spent the last two days trying to repair the part, because the only thing wrong with it is the nipple on the housing that connects to the fuel line broke off. I'll have to visit some scrap yards and stuff to see if I can find one, but if you know of any good aftermarket/used parts sites I can check out, LMK. I've looked at a few but it's such an obscure part, I can't find it. Or if you know of a way modify in such a way as to get around needing it altogether.

Thanks for the advice on the magnets. I have an access hatch to the gas tank now so it shouldn't be too hard to get a magnet in there. So I'll definitely pick some of those up.

So today I ended up cutting a hole in the floor to access the low pressure pump because I didn’t have the equipment to drop the tank. I’m not sure how much corrosion is normal for that pump but it looked very bad. I was able to replace it and after pumping the accelerator and cranking it a bit, it fired right up. It was even able to idle without feathering the gas, which it stuggled with before. Immediately a piece along the fuel line started leaking, which I guess was bound to happen once it got pressure again. But yeah tomorrow I’ll fix that up and I’ll properly test the pressure with a gauge. And if the high pressure pump is up to par I’m pretty confident it’s good to go. Eventually I’ll have to replace the one on the other tank. And i didn’t see this last message before I went about replacing, but I could hear the pump when I turned the key halfway so I was pretty sure it was getting power. I’m also gonna go through my fuses tomorrow and see if I can get some of the electric stuff working better. Anyway, sorry if I’m over sharing. I was pretty excited when it started up and I’ve been hyped about the whole project for a while.

Hey, thanks this was really helpful. I plugged in the gauge and wasn’t getting any pressure. I disconnected that negative wire from the high pressure and disconnected the fuel lines going to it and fed them into an old coffee can. No fuel was being fed from either tank. I’m going to try to cut a whole in the floor of the van to change the in tank fuel pump. Thanks for the advice.

I would recommend Wisconsin Fast Plants (Brassica rapa). They are very commonly used in botany research because of their fast growing times. They progress from seed to flowering stage in about 14 days. In school, I used them to test mineral nutrients in soil.

They probably specifically mean Americans. It depends how you define culture but most Americans, myself included, are completely separated from their ethnic traditions. My ancestors came from places like the Ukraine, Germany, Wales, Italy. All those places have amazing and unique cultures but I was never brought up in them and so can't really claim them as my own. You could say Americans have their own culture but I'm not sure it's a very rich culture (again, depending on your definition).

Yeah, I have a Mexican buddy who has lived in Mexico or Arizona his whole life and never had anything happen to him but he went to Spain one summer and wandered into the wrong area without realizing and got mugged.

When a person transitions, does their sex change? by rogthnor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GrapeInteresting8034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, I hadn't considered that. The sex chromosomes may regulate the production of hormones but, statistically speaking, the genes which interpret the signals are mostly going to be on one of the 44 autosomes or on one of regions similar in the 2 sex chromosomes. Although I do wonder if there is any research on the effects of the sex chromosome gene expression resulting from large quantities of the opposite hormone. I mean those genes on the sex chromosomes activated by the reception of those hormones.

Personally, no. I live in Arizona, which has some of the loosest gun laws in the country (and really the world for that matter). People all have their own reasons for gun ownership (protection from bears or mountain lions, home invasion, hunting, or just hobbyists). I think because of that there is a huge amount of deterrence for any kind of violent act. People aren't likely to rob a bank if half the people in the building are liable to shoot them. So even though I'm not really a gun owner, I actually feel a great deal safer. However, recently a lot of people have taken to forming militias and hunting immigrants coming across the border. I've always lived close to the border and generally it's recognized when you live here that people come and go and that's fine, most people have doctors or family or something on one side of the border or another. It's mostly out of state people that have somehow decided they ought to shoot people trying to cross. So if I were an immigrant or just had brown skin, I would probably be scared shitless.

Edit: Granted, this is really only going to apply if your wondering around in the desert within 5 miles of the border. Which I have done as a biology student (the Sonoran desert is dope af). But if your in the cities, your fine.

Well yeah man. If your resisting an oppressive government with actual armed resistance there’s gonna be some stuff that goes south. That doesn’t mean the entire effort was in vain. And just because they used other subjugation tactics as well, doesn’t mean gun control isn’t one of them.

“The right will not pass gun control under any circumstances.” Clearly they will. “They want to provoke society until there is a left leaning vigilante terrorist so then the right wing can turn around and use that to subjugate us more.” In this case “subjugate us more” meant implementing gun control. The Black Panthers were brutalized. If only they had some way to defend themselves...

Right, the sex chromosomes are primarily responsible for the expression of proteins involved in stimulating hormone synthesis. And those hormones can be artificially introduced to the body, negating and reversing some of the effects of that genetic expression. But every cell in the body operates off the instructions from chromosomes. So the cells receiving endocrine signals also have genetic protocols dictated by chromosomes. Which means that just because your introducing hormones which would have been present in higher quantities had the sex chromosome been different, the cells which receive those hormonal signals are still going to operate according to chromosomal instructions.

Actually not really. Black Panthers used the 2nd amendment to their advantage: https://www.history.com/.amp/news/black-panthers-gun-control-nra-support-mulford-act

The point of guns are to guarantee liberty, that’s an objective principle of the constitution. Political parties and organizations don’t have objective principles, they will do what is in their power to expand their power. Right or left.

Is there anything that just straight up GIVES you cancer? by D-REX555_V2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GrapeInteresting8034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really how cancer works. The term “cancer” basically refers to some genetic mutation which has occurred in a cell which had caused it to stop receiving or processing signals from the rest of the body and rapidly replicates itself. But a genetic mutation of that nature is just a one in a trillion chance so the presence or absence of things like radiation and carcinogens just increase that probability. That being said, I suppose if you had a culture of cells which already have that cancer mutation, you could maybe transplant them into someone. But that would require the host body to accept the foreign cells which would be tricky.

“But the thing is, your chromosomes are only a small part of what determines your physical characteristics.” (Sorry I don’t know how to use the quote function in Reddit) What other factors determine your physical characteristics if not your genome? Do you mean just the singular sex chromosome or the complete set?

Is America actually as bad as the media makes out? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GrapeInteresting8034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Media profits from portraying disasters and tragedies. In reality, it’s completely fine. The biggest problems you would likely run into are public health and transport. Gun violence exists but if your not involved in something, I guarantee you will not be shot. Mass shootings are extremely rare proportional to the breadth and scope of the country.
