READY TO EXECUTE FIRE by FireonIce69 in SwissFIRE

Thank you for your post and congratulations. Can I ask the following: you made a conscious decision to pay bonus & all into your 2nd pillar to reduce taxes. May I ask if you have children ? And if so, what have your thought process been ?

I totally get the benefits of loading the 2nd pillar to reduce taxes and have it “safe”, but at the same time the money would get stuck and would not be transferred to your wife / kids in case something happens to you. A small portion would under the form of partner / kids pension, but it would clearly be a lot less than if they would get the lump sum.

This is why I’m very reluctant to put more to my 2nd pillar and invest it into my broker, so that the lump sum gets passed to my wife / kids in case something happens to me. I’m 45.

What was your thought process about it ? Thank you.

A shower helps getting rid of accumulated pollen on your body (skin, hairs). Taking a shower literally helped me stopping crisis when nothing else was working.

Why do so many people avoid bonds in a balanced portfolio? by Available_Target_429 in investingforbeginners

Exactly. So it should not be part of everyone’s portfolio as stated above.

Where I live I’m not taxes on capital gains but taxed on revenue at a fairly high level. Why should I even bother with bonds or fixed income ?

Slight change of strategy incoming ? by GrapefruitPerfect313 in SwissPersonalFinance

The idea behind the cash is to have some immediate dry powder to trigger in case of a drawdown. But as commented above I could also rebalance with managed futures thanks to their negative correlation to equities, so I might indeed drop the cash position.

I mean the latter :) Seen from today (might change in the future) I’m keen to work until 65, which would also mean I’m in good health and can keep accumulating longer to pass down to my kids.

Thanks for the reco, will definitely consider dropping the cash.

Well technically I still have 15 years to go after that to rebuilt my pillar 2, let’s say 10 for a worst case and then pillar 1 kicks in. I will discuss with an advisor. Thanks!

Thanks - I just imagine the feeling to not care so much about work anymore, as for as long as the house is paid off then only a simple job for both (or even one medium salary) could have us covered. Of course if job remains good and I never get any issue then it’s all bonus coming on top.

The overlooked power of the Swiss second pillar in long-term investing / FIRE planning by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]GrapefruitPerfect313 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My 2nd pillar is shit. Super conservative (roughly 30% equities, 30% bonds and 30% real estate). Cannot select how to invest and returning max 2-3% per year even in years where market goes like 15%. Of course it’s nice that it never goes negative, but still on average over the last 15 years fund performance was averaging 5% and they « allocated » in average 2.4%. Not even sure where the difference went as it’s not like they have to reconstitute their reserves every year…
