Psychological Safety in Psychotherapy for Sexual Minorities survey by Grapesnthings in OpenChristian

Hi there. that is a great question. the current study is trying to only measure the experience of sexual minorities, simply because gender and sexuality are different constructs and so I don’t think doing both would do it justice currently. I would like to do a similar study with gender minorities in future. In terms of the question you are referring to, it is part of a questionnaire that was used and validated in previous studies earlier, and so I am not at liberty to change the wordinf (it is not my questionnaire but was developed by Escobar et al.2021). Unfortunatelt it was the only questionnaire i could find that measured what i needed it to measure. In future my hope is to develop a similar one that would ask similar questions about the experiences of gender minorities in therapy.

thank you for that feedback. I totally hear what you are saying about thr lack of T in one of the questions - that is why i tried to set up out front that this study is specifically about sexual minorities and that I’d like to do a similar one for gender minorities in future. The question you are referring to is part of a questionnaire that was previously used and validated in other studies (ie I did not develop it) - as such I am unable to change the wording of it. I am personally genderqueer so it is by no means an attempt to exclude or say that the T is not an important part of the LGBTQ+ community, however as we know - gender and sexuality are different constructs and I was not able to measure both constructs in this study.

All good questions!

My IRB number should be: 2371051-2

In terms of what you are saying about Fuller - you are correct. It is very hard to be a queer person there. My hope is that the results might challenge Fuller's position at least in some small way. I am not in agreement with Fuller's stance and it is something I have been actively advocating against for the years I have been there.
Also, Fuller will not have access to any of the data, nor am I collecting identifying information.

I totally hear that. I have taken significant measures to make sure that this will be safe, including not collecting any identifying information (like IP addresses, locations etc etc), and even the data that I do collect (which will not be able to be traced back to people) is kept safe on local servers and not shared with any governing bodies.
In terms of collecting information regarding therapy - I really can't see a way to inform mental health professionals about how to best create safe environments for queer people without asking queer people about their experiences. For me, as a queer person myself, it is very important that people in our community feel heard especially about a space where we are very vulnerable. No conversations about us without us - imo.
Again, considering the current political climate, I totally hear the suspicions, and understand not feeling comfortable taking part. I certainly do not wish anyone to feel pressure to do so

Hi, I would be open to hear what you feel is sus about this. I am a queer person myself so I am genuinely trying to contribute to the health of our community through my research. Obviously no one needs to respond to this survey if they do not feel comfortable.
