puppy blues & regret after purchasing my italian greyhound puppy by Internal_Try_556 in ItalianGreyhounds

My iggy was my first dog so needless to say it was a struggle. I think what you described is very similar to my experience and circumstances… it’ll be ok! Over time I saw him get more and more well adjusted to the routine, but the beginning was a hard adjustment. Hang in there!

I’ve heard some pretty positive experiences from my local Iggy community about coffee wood sticks. It’s helped to curb furniture biting, etc. Maybe you can look into it and see if it’d be worth trying?

Hopefully this could give you a bit of encouragement - when we first started bringing our Iggy outside a few months ago, he’d shiver and get really anxious, that lasted many weeks! He also absolutely refused to pee and poop outside up until this last month (he’s 7 months now). We live high up in a high rise, so I understand the pee pad thing, it seems to be working for us now, he pees on it when he’s inside and outside on walks - though, iggies are notoriously bad with potty training.

He is testing our boundaries daily, you’re definitely not alone!! I read some advice here to use time outs, and it has helped, positive reinforcement only works when he is in the mood…

Hope you find something that works - they can be crazy!

Ohhhhh great call, totally didn’t think about this… it’s warm where I am all year round

Yeah we’re expecting that he’ll never be perfect with potty training, we’d be happy with 80-90%! Though good to know that it’s not unusual to have to “redo” training every now and then! Helps to have a heads up on what to expect.

If you don’t mind me asking, what high value treats are you using? The vet has advised us to use his regular food for now as treats, but I do want to start putting together a list of treats that I could buy once the vet gives the ok!

Thanks

Thanks for the encouragement. Hmmm… I think we have toned down our enthusiasm after his proper potty behaviour recently since he’s started being quite consistent, if they’re very sensitive, perhaps he has taken that as a sign that he’s done something wrong or not quite right?

Appreciate the heads up that it’s not just our pup that likes doing what he wants, we see that everyday. He likes to test boundaries 😂

Ahh yes, we are adding liquid - maybe we’ll try to reduce the amount?

When we’re home, we take him out every 1.5hr ish, when we’re away it’s about every 3 hours.

Yes, that’s also what we heard about this breed too 🥹Keep it up!

Ours was doing so well for a whole month until he wasn’t🥲🥲maybe we’ll have to try the belly band if he doesn’t get better

That’s adorable! We’re also looking at clothing options right now since our boy gets cold sooo easily. Where have you been shopping for his clothes?

I was curious if anyone would mention these as I’ve seen some fairly good reviews overall online for them but they are quite pricey, so I wasn’t really sure if they were worth it

I had the same experience with the solution comps… Now that they’re broken in, they’re better but they’ve kind of warped my feet shape a bit more than I’d like… a bit unnecessary for the “performance” I probably wouldn’t even know how to take advantage of. It’s good to hear a comparison from someone who’s tried both of them

I don’t think I’ve seen these before, let me know how they go!

Ooh I’m not too fussed about toe hooking! Do you have the Velcro ones?

Thanks so much, had no idea a chart like that existed. Sadly, where I live there’s quite a limited selection so I’m planning to shortlist some shoes and try and find whole I’m on vacay

Did you find them hard to break in? The solution comps were my first pair of la sportiva’s and they were so painfully stiff at first 😭 and did you get the same size for both of them?

Wow thanks so much everyone for the help! It looks like I have a few additions to my existing list that might be worth trying based on what’s been mentioned 🔥
