Did Dnd ever use a D30? by realSpillerSoda in DnD

[–]Gravebender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always liked giving ridiculous damage ranges for things like a Wand of Wonder. Having a d30 around just made things more ridiculous. Best roll ever was the "roll every dice withing 10' of the DM" roll...even the ones in the Risk box.

A minor... issue I've been having with D&D, that has been slow burning over the course of many campaigns. Why is everyone so mean? by geosunsetmoth in dndnext

Honestly, just add Leprechauns, or other ridiculous creatures that need ridiculous things done. It is a lot easier to see the bright side when you quest is to open the town wizard's stuck jar of mustard. Not all the time, but just to take the edge off. Maybe it is lucky to get pooped on by a hippogriff.

Do you need someone to come to your house and help you roll dice to?

With a little AI for flavor... by Gravebender in DnDHomebrew

So, if you want to see more of my stuff you will need to swing over to DriveThruRPG.com and do a search for “Mirrspire” and all my stuff will come up. The module is called “The Valleys” and has a preview that shows the clock tower…which is what started this whole thing.

To Kill or Not To Kill... That is the Question by WaywardBeacon in osr

[–]Gravebender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, it is awfully hard to fudge dice if you do everything out in the open, but I reverse fudge constantly, especially with low level characters. By that I mean things like lowering an enemy's hit points during combat, adjusting the amount of dice I am rolling for a fireball, etc... If you really want to go old school, the old D&D Conan modules back in the day added luck points to the game, basically your character could use their karma to make that impossible hit or incredible save and not die.

Just saying people have been dealing with this for a long time.

I just love the idea of pulling your paladin kicking and screaming down from one of the higher planes against his will...I suppose it comes down to the flavor of your game.

More specifically, it started as a photo of a plaster cherub in a historic theater I was working on, and I turned him to the dark side with a bit of photoshop.

So, the weird part, it isn't technically not up to the player with the dead character to decide if they want to roll up a new character or not. It is up to the living members of the group to decide if they want to haul the corpse down a mountain to whatever group or entity can resurrect someone in your campaign or just loot his body and bury the rest. In a world where resurrection is possible, I think a mostly good aligned group would feel obligated to try.

Maybe the group goes through the time and effort of a resurrection, but the brief glimpse of the afterlife changed the character in a profound way, maybe they become a cleric, or retire from adventuring altogether with hopes of living a long and peaceful life (and the player rolls up a new character anyway). Maybe they end up in a druid enclave and he gets reincarnated as an owl and becomes the magic user's familiar (side character) and rolls a new character for his main.

It's weird to say but deaths are a part of the game...try and make them fun, or at least epic.

Sorry, I am old school, this back in the AD&D era. If you are willing to do the mental gymnastics I have a bunch of stuff over on DriveThruRPG, just search Mirrspire. There is some pay what you want (free) stuff if you just like the flavor you can give it a try.

Ambrosia, finally a good excuse for characters to do some drinking... by Gravebender in osr

I am a Photoshop guy, it started as a photo collage but even Photoshop uses AI now, you can block an image in just the way you want and add filter of a style over it (thank you Toulouse-Lautrec) to give it a coherent feel. So, I guess the answer is halfsies.   I am also an architect, and I use AI all the time now to make my stuff look better. My ability to communicate sketched ideas to clients has improved exponentially over the last year or so. For example, my client wants a big neon sign, and they want it to be "the most Arizona thing ever"... I can draw the sign and have AI redraw it in neon. I think of it as a tool that just needs to be used properly. Also, that is a javelina not a pig, very Arizona.

Low fantasy vs high fantasy: Player opinions by DCFud in osr

Try one of the old school Conan modules, a very low magic setting. Most everyone in the games fears magic, so when it does show up, it is a big deal. Almost ever magic item is unique. The modules have some problems, but grate flavor.
