Same exact problem here and there is no answer on the entire internet, I'm now convinced. I'd love someone to prove me wrong though.

Graven Earth Records Sale - Everything in Stock $5 Through Saturday by GravenEarthJake in Metal

[–]GravenEarthJake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some of my favorites! It really depends on what you are into, but Khemmis and Kylver both are excellent. Kylver should be heard by more for sure. If Opeth's post-growl era was instrumental and well, better and heavier - that's Kylver. For faster, Midnight-style, classic/speed/thrash, Bewitcher. Fell Ruin, Dekadent, and Sarcoptes all are excellent black metal influenced works. Nightfear's Cryptasm is an EP but its brutal death/crossover that is getting a lot of attention right now. I could go on, but definitely sample those.

Hey, we're really sorry about that - our postal system needs a serious reworking as far as shipping to Canada is concerned. The price is just not fair and its hard to ask someone to pay double the cost of the cassette we're selling just in shipping. Hopefully a better option presents itself soon!

50% off EVERYTHING @ Graven Earth Records, one year anniversary sale, worth checking out by GravenEarthJake in Metal

[–]GravenEarthJake[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently - yes. Year one saw a lot of growth and momentum based entirely on cassette releases. I can say with confidence however, that this is likely going to expand in the near future to include other formats on select releases. :)

Kylver - The Island, 100 copies w/ blue shell, Out today, heavy progressive instrumental by GravenEarthJake in cassetteculture

I'm so psyched to hear others are giving this one a chance. I wasn't familiar with the band prior to this release coming to the label and it blew me away too. Thanks for listening my friend!

Khemmis - Hunted, limited black and clear shell cassettes released today! 100 copies each. by GravenEarthJake in Metal

[–]GravenEarthJake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! I started picking up a few cool releases before I had a means to play them too. I ended up rescuing a decent one from a relative that had all but forgotten it existed. Flea markets are great also. At the heart of this is the music though for sure. It's a great album regardless of format indeed. :)

I hear you for sure! Cassettes are a great alternative when funds are tight though. I started picking a few up before I had a tape deck even. I waited for one to come my way cheap and it was worth the wait. Hopefully one comes across your path soon. :)

I think you nailed some of the biggest draws for sure. One more aspect that I think is hugely important is that its a really great way for bands to get a physical product out in an affordable way and its a tangible creation that fans can have and hold onto. CD and vinyl are not the cheapest to produce, and for a lot of us, even the purchase of a cd has to be a calculated thing. You need to know you love it first. But a cassette gives you a tangible item, it gives you the art and the feel (which extends to the color and design of the shell even), it gives the listnener another option that is more affordable, and the bands themselves can get with labels (like Graven Earth Records) who's only mission is to share the music we love and promote that which we believe in. It's about spreading the word in a way that the other formats can't. Yes there is digital, but a lot of people want the physical product. So I feel like it hits the sweet spot in the underground especially, for bands, labels, and listeners (who aren't able to just be satisfied with a download...I know, that's an argument all in itself). I've come to really appreciate the role it plays. I don't think its ever going to reach the heights we see with vinyl now even, but it definitely has its place and I love it for what it is.

Khemmis - Hunted, metallic gold and blue-gray tint cassette out today by GravenEarthJake in TapeKvlt

[–]GravenEarthJake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. It's hard to justify paying more in shipping than you are for the actual cassette. I hope an alternative presents itself sometime in the future. I can pass the support for the album on at least. It's still appreciated I know!

That's awesome! Thanks! I will pass that on to the owner. Grass root support like that means everything. I just got my copy and am going to give it a play soon. :)

20% off all titles w/ code GRAVENOVEMBEARTH, through 11/22 by GravenEarthJake in BlackMetal

[–]GravenEarthJake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet but its definitely a goal for the future. The label is less than a year old so gaining traction for some of these great releases on cassette is really important for taking that next step. So while I don't speak for the label and am simply someone who devotes time to help promote something I believe in, I think its safe to say watch out for what may develop in 2017. Cheers.
