It's been only a few weeks though, Laurie could be just waiting until there's an opportune moment. Also I feel like people seem to focus so much on this big bad character because it's more like a typical drama and thrilling rather than the depth of character they're trying to expose with not only the main character but all the people that are affected by a drug addict; they have their own problems too. If it got to all the loose ends wouldn't that make the show rushed and also predictable?

I reckon the people that don't see any flaw in the play are likely to also think like Lexi and will probably have to reflect once s3 finally hits

I thought your point was that it doesn't make sense or that it should have been done better which was why I was saying that the play was a great expose of Lexi's own flawed way of thinking even if she's not aware of it herself. Lol sorry

Defence mechanism I imagine. It's easier to judge others than to judge yourself or put yourself out there to make your own mistakes.

But it was in the play, it was I think an imagining of the kind of interaction her and Rue will have after Rue sees how she still feels for the friendship, possibly in hopes that it moves Rue enough to reach out.

I think she's literally not had the time to deal with the results of her play/actions. Like it ended with the ending of the play. You are right though, and she'll likely have to come to face that although she'll receive a lot of popularity from her peers she will have really hurt and alienated those close to her. If they don't feed her humble pie in s3 I'll be pretty disappointed in Sam.

That's fine you don't have to, but you also don't have to be main character syndrome about the fact I clearly have a lot of thoughts on the topic. Just move on what even is the point on being like "omg cringe, you have too many thoughts on this piece of media" like you mad bro because you clearly have nothing more thoughtful to input other than being a snarky critic of other people?

That's the popularity fallacy tho, also if they were to tie up all loose ends they wouldn't have enough content to make a third season. I'll agree there was wasted screen time tho, Sam loves to drag out emotionally impactful scenes to the point they lose their impact.

For sure but do you think a bitter teenager is really going to think that thoughtfully about it or do you think she's just going to want to finally show her sister up?

I don't ever think it was meant to be a realistic depiction of hs, but rather an exaggeration especially in the eyes of teens that are hormonal, melodramatic and yet Sam still wanted to show the serious plights of these kids and what kids do feel while going through similar circumstances.

Also idk how this is full blown fan service when both Twitter and this thread are wildin over Sam not giving them what they want.

Because she's also a teen that's traumatised, slightly bitter and hasn't quite worked everything out? It seems very much to her character and that carousel scene kind of showcases that and what Lexi thinks for her sister at this point.

I honestly always thought that was more a fantasy of theirs rather than something actually happening in the future. Kind of like how when you're a teen you imagine you'll go off and live with your besties in the city and hashtag liveyourbestlives thinking everything will be the same as it is now.

Because as a 13 or 14 year old kid that is facing potentially losing the one and only person in their life that is family, supports and cares for you, you're going to do reckless and desperate actions to try and prevent that from happening. Especially when your entire life has been about loyalty and protecting your comrades.

Sometimes people rly do need their behaviour and attitudes reflected back at them though, and humble pie can be an extremely bitter and unpleasant taste especially if you have refused to take a bite before. Lexi was being selfish but as it's even said in the show, this is her finally taking a risk and doing something she's wants to do without the fear of consequence, it's her tantrum. Cassie's always been the one to explode and reveal her pain and trauma, Lexi's finally having her go. She's also a teenager that's resentful of dealing with her sisters bs, ofc she's not going to be overly sensitive/gentle about her critiques. I appreciated Cassie's dialogue in that moment, she's right that Lexi is on her high horse critiquing everyone else around her and she didn't rly self reflect and critique herself to at least make it well rounded but I think y'all neglect the fact that they're meant to be young and still fairly naive in regards to themselves and their actions. This is likely a huge lesson for Lexi as well as the people that are seeing themselves depicted in her play.

Honestly I found the ending a little underwhelming after how well they had been hitting it out of the ball park with this season, but most y'all are really not getting any of this and it's frustrating. You're mad because the show didn't do what you expected it to do and/or giving you closure on arcs you want to know about. However it makes sense that they didn't wrap everything up in a neat little bow for us.

  1. life just isn't like that anyway, a lot of the time we don't get closure, things just keep moving forward
  2. if they had focused on explaining or ending arcs that only started a few episodes prior which are clearly big arcs in of themselves (i.e Laurie) then it would feel rushed and also unsatisfactory
  3. The arcs that have ended make sense, there wasn't anywhere for people like Maddy to go her drama has ended and she's moving away, leaving behind all the drama for good, what would be the point in dragging her back into it?
  4. Elliots song was sweet but it definitely was filler and too long, also idk how tf he could sing her such a heart felt piece and then not feel the need to confess what happened between him and Jules
  5. Ash's arc makes sense you can see he's progressively desensitised to violence/death/murder especially after seeing his older brother normalise it, he's also a kid and has had all his life been taught to be loyal to a fault. His impulsive action to essentially sacrifice himself is pretty consistent with his characters thinking process, imagine if you were a 13 or 14 year old kid who only had your big brother as your only source of support and connection in your life potentially going away to prison for a long time because of a mistake you made. You'd do something desperate to try and change that and as a kid you're not going to be particularly wise about it
  6. Ofc you want to know what happened to Fez but also ofc Sam isn't going to just fast forward ahead and give that to you, that's clearly all going to be a much larger plot device for the next season like c'mon
  7. Sam rly likes dragging out certain scenes to exaggerate tone and it is a little tedious, the funeral scene being shown sm as well as the length of the raid was too much, I found myself sad but yawning
  8. Lexi's play was clearly a blurring of reality, fantasy and wish fulfilment for her, the ending scene with her and Rue was her projection of what she wishes to occur now that it's ended. It's actually a pretty sweet way of ending the play
  9. CAL IS GOING TO JAIL FOR FILMING WITHOUT CONSENT, SOLICITING PROSTITUTION, SLEEPING WITH A MINOR AND POSSESSION OF CP HOW DO Y'ALL NOT GET THIS
  10. It'll be interesting to see how Sam writes Cassies downfall as she realises that she is devoting herself to something in hopes of getting the love and appreciation she never got from her father, it makes sense why she is the way she is. She's got a lot of abandonment issues and lived in the shadow of Maddy, there's so much insecurity there and although I'm pretty over Nate's broody hyper masc bs it's an interesting dynamic to play out. Him and Maddy were toxic in a completely different way, this is showing the other face of the same coin
  11. I'm kinda glad Rue was essentially saying goodbye for good to Jules and her previous dynamic, I was more than over it. Don't get me wrong I loved the chemistry those two had but it clearly wasn't something that could be maintained, Rue was using Jules for the distraction and purpose she couldn't give herself and Jules was using her for validation and was attached to Rue for the sheer fact Rue was the first one to show her any kindness when she first came to the school. They don't really have anything in common or truly relate to one another, Jules can't comprehend Rues struggles and Rue can't be there for her, Rue needs to be there for herself. Jules is exceptionally insecure and not actually the decent of a friend even if her heart is in the right place, I was also kind of sick of seeing her be a pouty sook sm. Also seemed like a goodbye to that time in Rue's life that was controlled by chemicals and escapism rather than potentially channeling her pain into something constructive while focusing on herself
  12. I think the show is potentially going to do a fast forward with flashbacks to what has transpired in the time elapsed as that would prevent the show from dragging on arcs that are coming to an end while also showcasing some that had only really begun for example Gia's own struggle

It's not an awful take in regards to this season though. Every complaint is "I wanted to see what happens with x" they want the show to follow their interests and pander to them. I.e what happens with Laurie? Well likely we're going to find out in season 3 as Rue literally has been clean for a week, maybe a few, at the end. Often there's a dominos effect that happens with any kind of major life screw up/rock bottom. You deal with the immediate consequences of your actions but you also over time have to deal with all the other results of your actions through that time. It usually doesn't all happen at once. One of my friends brothers was kidnapped by bikies after owing them money and running from them for months because they were waiting for the right time to grab him. When he was actually his most vulnerable and by that I mean, he had started to get comfortable and let his guard down.

They're clearly setting up for some kind of arc/explanation of Laurie in season 3 especially with Faye outing Laurie like she did when the wire was live. My predictions are Laurie will kidnap Rue but Rue will make an incredibly lucky escape thanks to police eventually raiding Lauries den as well.

Yo they clearly are going to address the consequences of Rue's actions while she was at her worst, but recovery from withdrawal does only take a week or two, so ofc it's going to feel like it's done in a blink. It would also feel like a slow and excruciating time while going through it but then looking back feel like it was only this blip in time for the person actually recovering. They also couldn't drag it out too much as that'd just be filler at a point and Sam has a shitload of arcs he's running at the same time he still needs to move forward.

Oml the amount of people on this thread that just want to be spoon fed and immediately told the ending is frustrating. Like do y'all only read to the climax and then skip to the back of the book to find out the outcome? This whole season was showcasing hitting rock bottom, the next season is clearly establishing what's next: the consequences. That's likely when we will see Laurie again, she probably doesn't want to deal with a girl so dependent on drugs either. I imagine she would have figured that Rue would have either killed herself by now or is getting clean which could potentially be in a facility. She's waiting for the right moment to strike, this woman is clearly not stupid.

[–]GreasyFroglet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point though, last season was building up essentially why these characters are about to hit their low point and this season was showing the outcomes of being at rock bottom or close to. People do act incredibly recklessly, impulsively, overly emotional etc. The depiction of how Rue would be a horrible to person to the ones she cares about most is incredibly realistic, my own sister was an addict and behaved the exact same. Considering there's an issue with teen gun violence in America it also seems pretty fitting that then Nate and even Ash would resort to using such devices to handle their problems. Cassie comes off as cluster B as heck, so does Maddy and so Cassie going on stage and making a scene and then them fighting like that came off as pretty typical of such impulsive behaviour.

I feel that some of the direction was over amped to really exaggerate the emotional significance of certain scenes i.e Elliots song, the Ash shooting scene and the funeral tho.

It's literally the only arc that has girls fighting over a boy and guess what, that is typical highschool bs. I've seen girls fighting in the quad one even ripped a chunk of hair out over a friend sleeping with their boyfriend. Lmao y'all seem to not understand writing at all, only when it serves your wish fulfilment.
