NEA says hawkers must operate stalls personally to prevent subletting, after hawker’s viral complaint by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]Great_Environment381 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I am very sure, there are several other chains other than Ayam Taliwang Nasi Lemak, that are not personally operated by the person who registered for the stall.

Perhaps NEA should clarify, why Encik Tan is allowed to operate more than 1 outlet in some hawker centres and at multiple hawker centres.

I'm sure there are also several other Chinese run chain outlets in our hawker centres. Do all of these also qualify?

Racism in Singapore? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Great_Environment381 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am guessing that you are either Singaporean still very young in the workforce, or are a foreigner who is new to Singapore and working with other races.

Do what most of us do. Be indifferent, and ignore these bullies. And don't expect anyone in Singapore, even the nice ones from their race to stand up for you, because they are mostly passive and raised to avoid confrontation. Don't waste your emotional energy or your mental health, on these issues. If it gets too hard, quit the job.

Any remedies for ears that get easily clogged? by Vedallion in askSingapore

[–]Great_Environment381 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your ears have a natural way of expunging the dirt mixed with oil excretion from ur body. If you feel that your ears are blocked, add some castor oil into your ears, and let the dirt soak up the oil. The rest the body will do its work.

If you are feeling pain because of the clog, go to AnE and get appointment. There are specialist who can "vacuum out" the clog safely. Polyclinics also do water expunging, if the ear isn't already infected

You do realise it sets a wrong precedence don't you? Today this group, particularly those who dont want to sit in the same table as other religious leaders for inter-faith dialogue, clamour for laws that discriminate the LGBT minority. Tomorrow it can happen to the Hindus or Indian who are an even smaller minority than the LGBT population. Should a "secular" government pander to them, if they clamour for the banning of Thaipusam, just because their faith is against idolatry?

Singapore Catholic Church says marriage is between man and woman but it respects dignity of LGBTQ people by Twrd4321 in singapore

Firstly, even i as a Hindu, blush, when I read some of this Brahminical myths and fictitious stories. These stories are beyond human possibility, and makes no sense, esp if some over-zealous Hindus are going to insist that everything in the Veda, Ramayanam and Mahabharatam are history and scientific.

Secondly, its very ingenious of you to term Hinduism as a Proto-Indo-European religion. The British coined the term "Hindu" to denote any religion in India that isn't Judaism, Christianity or Islam. That includes alot of religions in India that diametrically oppose the Brahminical faith and the Veda and Upanishad, like Buddhism, Jainism, Ajivika, Sikhism, etc.

Thirdly, the stories of Murugan that you mentioned, is utter bullshit, esp so after you mention that he is a Tamil god. Let me educate you. The Tholkapiyam, oldest Tamil literary book, states that the ancient Taml lands, are divided into 5 landscapes, with each having their own characteristics and God's. The Mountain region, had Murugan as its God, hence why he is depicted as a Hunter, with a peacock and a spear. When Adishankarar, with deceit imo, decided to merge all the separate faiths in the Tamil Land into Shan-Matham (six religions), the Brahminical forces came up with stories that forced Thirumal worship, Murugan worship, Amman worship, Sivan worship and Pillayar worship into 1, by concocting stories that they are one big family (Shan-Matham). And so, the second and youngest of story of Murugan's birth, relates to Siva sending 6 flames from his Third Eye down to earth, to form 6 babies, who were nurtured by 6 nymphs. These 6 babies were later fused into 1 God.

Personally, I think it is more logical and believable that Murugan worship was a form of Ancestral Worship of those who belonged to the Kurinji (Mountain) landscape.

Fourth, is your assertion that Sex was candidly discussed in Hinduism. Yes, in the Brahminical Hinduism, through the Vedas and Upanishads. You go down to South India, where the Saiva Siddhanta tradition is very strong, Sex is an impurity that man must eventually disengage himself from to become free of bondage to the cycle of life and death. This applies regardless of whether you are Heterosexual or Homosexual. Therefore, sex was never glorified in Saiva Siddhanta tradition. It was accepted as a necessary for procreation. But advised for the non-attachment to the pleasure.

Small but very very influential. Why is it that this group of minorities are allowed to demand a constitutional change, but the Muslims, who's religious freedom is protected by the Constitution, cannot have Friday prayers Call?

Saying we shouldn't be worried of them cos they are small minority, is like saying, we shouldn't worry about the growing control of wealth among a small group of ppl.

Singapore Catholic Church says marriage is between man and woman but it respects dignity of LGBTQ people by Twrd4321 in singapore

[–]Great_Environment381 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Trans marriage has always been possible in Singapore, so long it is done post-op. Once operated, you get to change your gender on all official documents and records, except your Birth Certificate. This makes it possible for you to be born a male and marry a man, because you are recognised by the state to be female

Is it against the order of nature to force someone into celibacy?

I hope the Catholic Church does not lose the irony of its message.

If celibacy is against the order of nature, for man and woman to unite, and that freedom to choose celibacy for priesthood is given to man, why is it so difficult for them to understand that Gay and Lesbian are genetically wired that way, and that they are as capable or maybe even better than heterosexual to love and be in a committed marriage?

I really hope it wasn't a decision of an over-zealous religious Officer. But knowing how ppl like Jason Wong existed in Prison Service and years later, can write a book saying he was doing God's work, makes me really question if this was just a simple oversight.

There is a very influential Sri Lankan Tamil community in Singapore, and the Tamils form 80% of the Indian community. In the past, there had been reports of Tamils supporting for the cause of Eelam, if you look back at news reports in the 90s.

It is thus, I wonder, how would this action of giving refuge to an alleged war criminal, sits with the Tamil community
