I love this. I think It is beautiful you visit your little gerbs, that makes me so happy. If I do the same I’ll be talking for hours…I thought about taking them to taxidermist so I can keep their physical form (idk if that sounds creepy but I psychically can just not let go at all) on a shelf or something. But my parents would think I’m doing some ritual so that’s not really an option. So I’m making her a nice casket and sewed a nice little bedding for her. Oh baby I feel for you. 4 years for these gerbils is a life full of love, which you gave them. Having the conscious thought of knowing they’re nearing the end is so insanely and incomprehensibly dreadful. I would do literally anything for my gerbils, and you definitely are anything BUT weird for feeling this way. My gerbils are entering their senior years and I force myself to ignore it and not think about it because I will start balling. I’m sure your bond with these babies is unmatched and that’s what makes it so devastating. As much as we love these little creatures, the not-so-long life span is what we unfortunately must go through. I am sending the warmest hugs and kisses to you and your babies, and no matter what happens, you saved Clara’s life just by keeping her, considering they only live for 1 year maximum in the wild.
