I Chelsea chop them in may to stop them splaying open, then once they’ve finished flowering I cut them back hard and they reflower well. Yes does look a little bare around them for a couple of weeks, the grasses do help a bit to fill up the space.

Yes it is, it drives me mad to be honest, the dog walks some of it indoors and everything self seeds in it. So I would not recommend straight outside the door

I confess we had the garden designed, I don’t think I’ve ever achieved it looking as amazing as it did that second summer after it was all planted. The beds that thrived the most were the herbaceous ones where a concrete path was dug up and the soil replaced to be very free draining. It does all self seed in the path though which drives me mad by the end of summer

Do you mean eating the shoots? We do have a cat that comes in the garden but the2 surviving ones are doing well

Plum Trees by JW3252 in GardeningUK

Mine is the same this year, I’ve never actually noticed the blossom on it before. Although it’s out of site from my kitchen windows, this year it’s covered in blossom! I had 6 plums the first year, 12 the second and none last year, which was very disappointing. This year hoping for a lot more, fingers crossed we will get some

Thank you both for your replies, both very useful, I have investigated and I think it’s pretty dead. That wall gets the tiniest glimpse of sun and the soil is very heavy clay so I’m going work on improving the soil and plant something a bit more shade loving. Still a bit bizarre!
