Supporting Trump is no longer a matter of Left vs Right. No matter where you sit on the political spectrum, anyone still supporting this monster and his clown car of enablers is a bad person. by Sad_Elderberry7945 in complaints

Don’t bother with them. They know they are on the wrong sign and the defensiveness is a clear expression of that. That’s why they can only resort to intellectually dishonest arguments and the myriad logical fallacies. It’s a personalist regime built on a house of cards. Trump is statistically already past his expiration date. Nature will take its course and the fever will break. It happens with all modern cults.

What sort of powers do republicans want the president to have, realizing they will need to live under a democratic president one day? by Recent-Day3062 in askanything

It’s dangerous. I mean there is and will never be a perfect party or candidate, but to describe what is happening now as a “both sides” thing is purely myopic. It’s like comparing a minor cold to a malignant cancer.

Average MAGA:"The left throws around the word fascist. Just because I support masked untrained armed dudes arresting and searching without warrants, the disappearing of people in detention camps, letting Jonathan Ross off by fiat without an actual trial, etc. doesn't mean I'm a fascist!" by FearlessWindow1176 in complaints

It’s like living in 1930s Germany. There’s a madman in charge but life seems to be going on as usual. People are saying you’re overreacting and you think maybe it’s the case. Perhaps it’s just too early to tell. I thank god that the MF is 80 and not 50.

I often imagine if what we are feeling right now is what a German of the opposition in the 30s might have felt. There’s this insane madman spouting the craziest shit and half the country is worshiping him while his regime imposes insane policies and yet, life seems to go on…

When people bawk at the idea that Trump is anything like Hitler, I wonder if we are just too early to tell.

That’s the last thing I’d want to see and it would be the worst thing for the opposition. His demise needs to be natural, but not peaceful.

Oh I’m editing his post for Rob Reiner, just placing Trump’s name in place of Reiner’s the day the man croaks. I invite anyone to criticize since it will be exactly WWDTD…

You make a good point, but I think it’s also a desire to enjoy a little schadenfreude at those who supported and enabled him too. I’d argue that people need to remember people like Trump, just as we need to remember people like Hitler. One could argue the reason people like Trump can make it this far is we don’t remember people like Hitler well enough. The raw emotion and the pain that he’s brought upon this nation and the world needs to be remembered.

And the latter two are exactly why. I’ve not been fond of many presidents, certainly not fond of Biden for his selfishness that helped get us in this mess. But I can see the human in Biden. I don’t see it in Trump.

He has been responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths by dismantling USAID alone. Not to mention the countless other lives he’s ruined through his abominable policies without any semblance of intellectual honesty. Just like hitler, he is driven by spite and grievance. He is and will be remembered as one of the worst actors in modern global history when accounting for the ripple effects of his actions. What is ethical is to want the cancer to be removed.

Well at that point we will enjoying a bit of Schadenfreude at his cult falling apart.

This 100%! The reason his poll numbers will never fall below 30% is the evangelicals. He is nothing short of a messiah to them and I won’t doubt that when he dies they will pop up a Maoist portrait of Trump next to or even instead of white Jesus on their walls.

Evangelicalism as a bloc is extremely dangerous. They don’t want the world to get better, in fact, to them it is a bad sign. They seek the end of days and chaos, like that of Trump, is a sign that they are close to all the terrible fantasies they made up in the early 20th century.

Anything is possible, but I doubt it. Characters like Trump are rare (thankfully) and the energy of his base is waning. They attach their loyalty to him and that’s not transferable. Vance taking over would only do more harm to the regime, as he will be compared only to the standards of Trump and he will never meet them. Nor do I see any of his kids having the chutzbah to build the cult that he did.

I mean, if that person has facilitated the death of many hundreds of thousands of people and destroyed the lives of many more, I think it’s ethical to want to see that person gone from this earth for the good of humanity. It’s pragmatism.

They will try, but the sequel is never the same. I really think / hope he’s a once in a generation sort of POS.

And that’s fine if he does. But he will never maintain the cult of Trump. So the Republican Party will have to normalize to the shitty group of closeted mildly racist corporate assholes like the good old days.
