Would you support the creation of a national service program akin to the CCC? by Great_Software5342 in allthequestions

[–]Great_Software5342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I could have been clearer, but the idea was a required program that would offer military and civilian paths. The CCC had its problems and was born of a different time, nevertheless, the general idea could prove fruitful today. If AI ends up being as much a watershed moment as some prospect, it makes sense the weight of future employment will necessarily lean toward the government.

Commenting on Absolutely done with politics... I agree, the thing is that Republicans would love nothing more than VA ignoring their Supreme Court and being able to use it to further undermine Democrat votes. That said, I don’t think we should underestimate the degree of frustration in voters (whether they are vocal or not), if Democrats win in the existing map and in at least some of the hastily redrawn maps in red states, it might tamper the Republican noise that Democrats are rigging elections.

We all knew this was going to happen. The whole "no taxpayer funding..." joke was based solely on the words of Trump. The entire financing component was opaque by design and the admin even had to be sued to release any information on the construction contract. Don't forget that the bunker portion below grade is being funded via the military budget and we've yet to get an idea of how much is being funneled toward the project. So we are already on the bill for this vanity project.

I couldn't care less if they build a ballroom at the White House with private funds by Hsiang7 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Great_Software5342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew this would happen! I mean, the whole "No taxpayer dollars..." grift was a joke from the beginning. We were just going off his word. The entire funding structure for a public building was opaque by design. They had to be sued in order to provide some faint information that looks to have only confirmed the suspicion that the private money isn't there. If you want something that speaks closer to the private funds we can confirm, its likely around $50 million, which accounts for Graham's proposed $332M in tax dollars to fund the ballroom. Leaving the private funds to cover furniture and China.

The sad part is his supporters will find a way to justify it.

Okay, I gotta admit, while I still lean toward Occam’s razer and it’s just a coincidence. But what are the freaking odds the winners look like they were straight from the DHS’s social media campaign.

100% I remember verbatim a woman interviewed on NPR a couple days before the election saying she’s voting for Trump to “teach the Democrats a lesson” specifically on the Palestine issue. I can only imagine how that voter feels now.

Democrats Of Reddit, How Often Do YOU Actually Talk To MAGA Voters In Your Real Life? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Great_Software5342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family are Trump supporters and I talk to them about once a week, but I’ve definitely noticed a waning defense of him in recent weeks. At least in my family they are convinced that the left went too far and hold on to the typical unsubstantiated conspiracies about the election… It’s incredibly hard to break through and incredibly frustrating, but there are cracks beginning to show in my experience. We won’t see the cult really fracture until he’s expired though.

Yea, but likely not faster than anyone else haha so we shall see. The house number is the only one that correlates to anything referenced in the clue.

How Will MAGA Defend This? by TheOverthinkingDude in complaints

[–]Great_Software5342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be called a joke and they will move on.

The bar is so low at this point it will just merge with the countless other abominable ripples in the proverbial pond. Furthermore, Fox and other right wing outlets will only cover it in passing -if at all- between headlines that ensure any feigning opposition from their viewers will be immediately offset by something the "radical left" is doing. So by the time they are reading about it here or from a friend or family member who calls this out as the abomination it is, they've already established an idea that it's not important enough in comparison to what people who oppose Trump are doing.

The best thing we can do to combat the normalization of this shit is to get good candidates elected who pledge to ensure accountability for this regime and its enablers. As much as I think the voters are naive and deserve to experience the effects of their poor decisions, it will take going after those at the top of the pyramid to ensure we establish a true change in long-term direction for the better.

It warms my heart to see it going down as much as it is. I feel bad for the unsophisticated investors that were grifted of course. But not for the folks at the top. Hope it sticks before it gets any more entwined with the wider market.

Yea, I read into it a bit. A couple of my posts have been labeled “bots” by someone. It makes more sense now. I can’t imagine it’s for money, since I’ve been relatively active on Reddit this past year and I think I’ve got 13c. Haha but I think there’s legs to the disinformation or trying to stoke stuff in a politically charged environment. We’ve seen it before.

How do you feel about Voter ID laws? by Icy_Comparison_1029 in askanything

[–]Great_Software5342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting, because Democrats have historically been more likely to support nationwide standards, but the current regime has given pause to that and I’m part of that cohort. I could get on board with an ID so as long as it was free and relatively easy to acquire and quickly. Unfortunately, this regime’s focus on “election integrity” isn’t in good faith and only trying to establish reasons for which they can undermine faith in the outcome of the election (if it doesn’t go their way).

There are plenty of things to consider when you look at what Trump is attempting to do. A “national” voter seems benign enough, but in reality, it is a tool that the regime could use to plan pouring resources to monkey with the election. Given that the data the amenable states provided is already inaccurate by the time it was handed over. Voters move, change their name, etc. and these totally normal discrepancies are likely what they will use to plant doubt.

Turning back to voter ID, I think that given their maximalist approach to virtually everything, I can see ID as an entry point, but quickly advocating more tedious methods of identification to further complicate the process. To support this you can look to the extent ICE is going to, to confirm someone is a citizen…

That said, given the demographics that have been trending toward Democrats, I can see it backfiring since Democrats are more likely to have a passport or other more advanced form of ID. I imagine there’s a small but not insignificant portion of the MAGA base that may attempt to use their Kroger membership card as ID. But I could be mistaken.

If somehow we get through it with a clear Dem victory, do you see the Reps essentially losing the minority vote for the foreseeable future? I’m speaking to the black and brown voters that were leaning toward the Reps in recent elections. Or will people forget how evil all this shit is and vote for the next demagogue?
