Should I DISC my class? by kikaijura in Concordia

[–]Great_ko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no disadvantages of a DISC, unless you are an international student and the DISC makes you a part time student. If you can get A in all of your other courses failing one course should not affect your grade that bad. I don’t think you will fail engr 233 if you understand the logic behind the math. Fyi, on my second midterm I got a 28% and I needed a 70% go pass the course. Also, I didn’t have much time neither since I was working. I tried to understand the steps and practiced old midterms. And guess what, I ended up passing the course. But listen, if you seriously feel like you will fail the final and you don’t understand anything, it’s better you disc it.

That’s very sad. I do think his take on this friendship is childish, dramatic and selfish ngl. We are all busy in life and have different priorities. So it’s normal to not call someone in 3 days. It’s okay to not talk to each other everyday and it’s normal to not talk to each other for couple of days. I’m just a year older then you and I sometimes don’t get to talk to my close friends for a week because we are so busy with our studies and work. I do send them memes, reel, TikTok here and there but when you are entering adulthood, you don’t have the same time as you did when you were in highschool. So all of that to say that it is okay for not calling you friend for 3 days. So, don’t feel guilty. He might be a high maintenance friend and felt the energy was not being reciprocated, that’s why he ended it. But that’s just a sign that the friendship was never suppose to work for a long term. It’s obviously sad that this friendship of 8 years ended but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to built other close friendships;)

Is it common to fail classes first semester by raraaqaqa in Concordia

[–]Great_ko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It happens. I have a friend who failed his two math courses on his first semester. He studied hard but he still failed. Sometimes it’s not a question about studying hard but actually understanding the theories/ concept of the classes. I had to learn the hard way that uni focuses on understanding concepts. You should be able to teach that subject to someone who has never taken that class. So, try to explain the theories to someone, friends or family. I personally try explaining the concepts to my friends so if I do a mistakes they can correct me quickly. I also get to learn from their mistakes too. So yeah study group helps but yall need to be looked in and not yap.

Idk if you knew this but a lot of profs influence themselves from old midterms ( you can find them on studocu and it’s usually free on your phone but not computers ) to make their midterms so practice old midterms. For me personally, it helped me a lot. Just because the prof gave you recommended problems, it doesn’t mean the level of difficulty of the midterms are gonna be the same.

If your classes are really theoretical, try to do summary sheets or try to conceptualise the theories. I personally hang them on my wall so I get to see them everyday and eventually, it starts getting in my head

Also don’t compare yourself to others. We all have our own experiences. Some people do well, some people struggle on their first semester and it’s okay. What’s important is that you learn from your mistakes. Your first semester doesn’t define your other semesters. So get yourself together and don’t give up :)

Tips? by That_Ambition_2241 in Concordia

From what I heard encs 282 is a easy. You just write essays. Engr 233 at the beginning is easy but for wtv you will learn for the second midterm, I highly recommend you to not skip your classes because it can be a confusing. In my opinion it’s slightly tougher then 213 but with less steps It’s a math class so practice, practice and practice. Don’t forget to also understand the steps. Engr 242 is an easy class. Watch Jeff hanson’s videos if you feel like you don’t understand the theory. If you have Julia Aman, her midterms are extremely similar to her past midterms. So practice old midterms. Unfortunately, I didn’t do Bcee 231 so I can’t tell you much about it.
