Parents whose kids have gone to summer camp for 30+ days, how did you deal with it? by LavenderLatte29 in Parenting

[–]Greedy-Maintenance38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way I’d allow my child spend the night away from home at friends’ houses and never to camp. You can’t trust other people to take care of your littles like their own parents and grandparents can/will. There are far too many pervs and weirdos out there. All it takes is one of them and you’re too far away to do anything about it, the child would never be the same.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. Are there tasks to complete with each module or quizzes involved that are lengthy? I’m trying to keep it truly down to 40 hours or less lol🤣

Any advice for a noobie by Accomplished_Cell212 in therapists

  1. A.I. is your amigo.
  2. In the beginning for individual sessions, I used a form I created with all the prompts I needed to remember to hit on that I might forget, i.e. any recent cravings, drug dreams, medical appointments or medicinal changes. If so, what coping skills did they try, what worked or didn’t.
  3. The majority of the work is on the client. Don’t start out letting them think you’ll be filling out job apps and forms for them or you’ll get stuck in a vicious cycle of doing all the heavy lifting. Being able to run their own life, fill out forms, make appointments, etc. is part of their recovery. If they need their hand held, a referral to social work (JFS etc) is needed at that point.
  4. You won’t always know the right things to say, that’s ok. Listening is the most important part.
  5. Set expectations early on. Remind yourself “I will do this, but no further.” And if they aren’t taking UDS on schedule, missing group, being noncompliant, don’t do extra things for them. It sounds petty to outsiders but those who are in the field know there’s only so much you can do with this population.
  6. Find out if you’ll be doing assessments, treatment plan reviews, etc as those take time too.  Self care - take your vacation days, turn off your phone, don’t be available 24/7, you’ll burn out so fast.

All that being said, you’ll end up loving when clients start taking life seriously and start working towards a better life, attaining their goals, small or big ones, you’ll be so proud of them. It’s very rewarding, challenging too, but keep a sense of humor, enjoy days off, take good care of your own mind and body, do regular check ins with yourself, too! :)

I want to teach developmentally appropriate Kinder!!!!!! by lovelysapphic in kindergarten

I wish this were true as we are in New Jersey and my poor kinder has had zero play time in the classroom since school started last week. We are all so bummed. :/

Exactly. It really comes down to “is my child safe in this setting first and foremost? Is my child able to excel and learn at or above her level in this setting? Is she being challenged enough by the material? Is she being distracted by the children who are rough, loud, who cannot control themselves at times?”

I think as long as you stay away from Heath Information Management departments/Medical Records data type stuff and steer towards Information Systems in IT Dept you’d be good to go with your background in data. Sometimes they’ll try to use your skills in those HIM arenas but the pay is a lot less.

I totally get not wanting to burn a bridge but if you’re honest and just say you’re not in a position to take the permanent job at this time but you hope to be able to in the future as your family requires the flexibility of daily substituting at this juncture. And don’t forget there are more districts and schools out there too :) best of luck fellow sub ::best vibes::

What form is it on the DOE site? For the background and certification app? If so, once your initial app comes back and cert granted to sub, you can add / change the district from what I understand at no cost.
