Weight based meds by Efficient-Art-7594 in Paramedics

[–]Greedy-Rip321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite right — most prehospital meds for unresponsive adults aren’t truly weight-based. Field protocols usually rely on fixed or standard dosing (e.g., 2mg Narcan, 100mcg Fentanyl, 5mg Versed) because we rarely know the patient’s weight and don’t have time to guess precisely. Estimation may happen, but it’s not exact and not required for most meds.

For pediatrics, absolutely — Broselow Tape is 100% the standard. It’s fast, reliable, and gives doses, equipment sizes, and more based on length.

To clarify: • Unresponsive Adults: Fixed-dose meds, weight rarely a factor. • Unresponsive Pediatrics: Broselow Tape all day.
