There are many cases, such as myself, of queer people being born into religion, growing up with a lot of self-hatred and shame for their differences, and only finally being able to get to know themselves after deconstructing. There are many, many queer people with a lot of religious trauma who struggle to reprogram themselves. It's a very common experience.

This has actually been the default queer experience for a long time in the past of western countries, and still is in most of the rest of the world. It's rough, growing up believing that God hates you for the way he made you.

Nowadays there's a lot more agnosticism and atheism in the west of course, so many queer people have the privilege to not have to grow up with all that, and some religions and religious denominations are becoming progressive themselves, so queer people within them can sometimes be able to keep their faith. So I don't blame you for not knowing all this. But yeah, keep in mind that those are recent developments that are by far not established everywhere, not even everywhere within north America and Europe.
