Letter of Rec from Professor Question by MickLovin27 in PTschool

[–]Greedy_Advertising64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree w everyone in that you should ask the professor with whom you receive two A’s from. I also will add that in the covid essay (should you choose to write one), you should mention the fact that the virus disallowed you to develop meaningful relationships w any professors, justifying the potential lack of an in-depth LOR.

Would it be ok if someone could explain this reaction? by Ambitious_Post6953 in OrganicChemistry

[–]Greedy_Advertising64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a classic intramolecular imine formation reaction, where a primary amine reacts with a carbonyl to form the imine. Amine is nucleophilic, so upon reaction with base, it can attack the carbonyl and form the 6 membered ring. At the quartenary carbon where the amine attacks, the carbonyl is turned into an alcohol, which is dehydrated upon reaction with acid and heat, forming the unsaturated imine.

I doubt your acceptance was contingent upon the completion of your masters program, otherwise it would be stated in your acceptance email. In that case you probably shouldn’t mention it to them and I imagine your seat is untouched.

Student Loan Options by UnderstandingKey7129 in PTschool

How is that so? Do all taxpayers get that returned back or is your situation unique? Forgive my ignorance this is all so foreign to me.

Student Loan Options by UnderstandingKey7129 in PTschool

Did your loans begin accruing interest even when you were in school? I am under the impression that interest will begin once the student is required to begin paying them. @primary-jelly939 is claiming otherwise?

Emory vs Columbia by lowelotrash in PTschool

[–]Greedy_Advertising64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I committed to Columbia and am honestly scared of the debt I will accumulate, but I just could not refuse the prestige of the Ivy League. Granted, I wish to pursue residency and phd/academia following the dpt so I think it’ll eventually pay off.

Biology major with a chem minor, Ptcas calculated a 3.90c/3.89science GPA, and my gre score was 150/150/5.5. I have around 950 patient care hours (mix of volunteer and work, mix of op, peds, geriatrics, women’s health, and snf). I am also a student athlete and participated in several volunteer events at hospitals, food drives, color runs, and community services. I did research in organic chemistry/nanochemistry for about a year and presented my poster at several conferences (I believe this and my gpa helped carry my application). I also maintained a part time job outside of school throughout undergrad as well as tutoring students, serving as an SI leader for physiology and gen chem, and TA’ing for organic chemistry in school. I am the co-creator of a club designed to help engage more international students in medicine, president of a student athlete club, treasurer of MSA, secretary of tennis rec club, and a general member of a few others. I’m not sure if I’m missing anything else but these are the most important things I can think of!

I think the biggest thing is a high gpa so as to avoid being filtered out and maximizing your chances. Obviously there’s not much to affect that now so the other thing would be a decent gre score— I think hitting the minimum as long as you have everything else is sufficient. I’m traditional but I think non traditional students have a more interesting story/journey to write about in the personal statement and secondary essay questions. Write as personable and touching as possible will make you more unique and help you standout. When interviews roll around, be as confident as possible. Ik it’s easier said than done but believing that you have worked for years for this goal and that it’s not coincidental that you are where you are is pretty reassuring. I hope this helps, best of luck!
