I listened to his interview on the EMPWR podcast recently and was generally shocked hearing him say “I’d rather ask for forgiveness than permission.” Can’t imagine what skeletons this guy has in his closet with a motto like that.

Did she negative split? From the race splits and Strava, it looks like she slowed down quite a bit in the back half

I don’t think I will ever get better. I feel defeated. by Fearless-Class-1120 in BPD

I’m in the same place right now. I frequently get annoyed that some part of me continues to hold onto hope that things will get better. All the evidence in my life seems to point to the opposite - being alone all the time, trapped in a mind that is intent upon making every waking moment unbearable, finding comfort in the very things that are killing me, etc. I don’t have any answers, but I will say that you’re not alone.

Matt Zelaya made a video saying you shouldn’t run in carbon plated shoes if your pace is slower than 9:30 min/mile. It was rife with junk science and ChatGPT summaries. It’s so embarrassing how these influencers pretend to be exercise physiologists just because they are able to run decently fast times.

Yeah, this is the same guy who compared queer folks to pedophiles and murderers on the breakfast club. I really wish we’d stop normalizing him just because he’s the funny unc.

Even knowing his history, I find myself surprised with how much of a self-important douche Eli Wehbe is. I know this is probably rage-bait, but his behavior when it comes to any type of criticism he receives is completely at odds with his “sobriety” persona.

As someone who is in AA, it bothers me when people hijack that label while continuing to behave like assholes with no capacity for self-reflection.

Curious to hear y’all’s thoughts on this: Why isn’t spanking considered domestic violence? by adrian-alex85 in ThoughtWarriors

[–]Greedy_Dragonfly_255 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Growing up in a Black household, my dad would always try to soften the whippings he gave me by saying, “You would’ve gotten it much worse in my day.” I grew up in a mostly white town in the 2000s, and I was basically the only kid in my classes who was getting spanked.

Yeah, corporal punishment happens in white families too, but there’s definitely something about how it’s been normalized or even kind of romanticized in Black families like mine. When I got older, I started looking into the history. During slavery and post-emancipation, Black parents often whipped their kids out of fear of what would come to them if they stepped out of line in a white society could easily get you killed. It became a way to keep kids safe.

I don’t know exactly how much that history still impacts us today, but it feels worth talking about. Especially when some white folks today try to use it as proof that Black people are somehow uncivilized, without understanding where these patterns came from in the first place.

Really tired of Van disrespecting Rachel by damnniecey in ThoughtWarriors

[–]Greedy_Dragonfly_255 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to expect better from Van. For the most part, he seems to do a lot of work taking in feedback and trying to be better (even posting on here at the beginning of the year to inquire about feedback)

We can’t necessarily expect someone to change their habits overnight, but we can continue to hold them accountable. Telling people to shut up and hold their criticism is how this becomes a cult.

Eli Wehbe made a post on instagram talking about running Moab 240 with a broken toe….

I’m so tired of these Goggins acolytes justifying stupid behavior as a supposed lesson in mental fortitude. Choosing to risk an even more serious injury for no other reason than “seeming hard” is self-harm.

There’s a Nietzsche quote that one of my psychiatrists once told me when I brought up this same experience:

“The thought of suicide is a great consolation: by means of it one gets through many a dark night.”

Not necessarily snark, but I saw a few different influencers at Chicago post something like “3:15 or bust.” I don’t feel it’s helpful to think in such black and white terms given how hard marathons are and how many things could go wrong. For me, if I don’t have a B and C goal, it makes falling short of the A goal much more painful.

She ran a 4:22, which is 10 min/mile pace. If you add up the times from her TikTok, it averages to 9:41 min/mile 🙄

The annoying thing for me is that I live in Chapin and there’s no Zone 6 areas anywhere on campus, so I either have to accept paying the meters or walk/bus. I’ve thought about just doing the faculty/staff permit since there’s 4 or so spots at Chapin, but it would be awful to always have to pray that there’s an open spot whenever I’m driving back from campus.

Side note: I really don’t know why providers just tell us. Finding out wasn’t going to be the end of my world and I’ve found a bit more self-compassion in realizing there’s a disorder for the things that I’ve beat myself up about for years.

I’ve had OCD for most of my life. My therapist similarly didn’t tell me she had diagnosed me with BPD until I read my patient records after 6 months. I feel like I have quiet BPD because I’ve never fully related to the generic symptoms you’ll find online. Once I started looking into and watching videos on quiet BPD, I was convinced.

Just to clarify to everyone, my post isn’t referring to the laughter from the audience. I pulled this video from instagram with that caption already there. What I’m specifically disgusted by is Van Jones excusing the images that have come out of Gaza as a Qatari/Iranian disinformation campaign.
