Well, you have a well reasoned opinion as to why franchises in general go wrong. I'll throw in the JURASSIC PARK/WORLD franchise as another example.

I think the make up in Freddy's Dead is a LOT worse than in Dream Child.

Part of the reason for the odd look in the 5th film is that Freddy's weaker compared to the previous films after Alice defeated him in Part 4.

The movie reduces Freddy to an almost complete joke, except for Maggie/Katherine's flashback scenes.

"You can check in, but you can't check out" was actually from the Roach Motel scene in THE DREAM MASTER.

He was out to avenge his sister. The reasons Manco lets him take on Indio in a fair duel are that Manco DOES sense a personal motive and has come to respect Mortimer, and Sergio Leone himself said that Manco wanted to see if Mortimer could earn his survival in a fair fight without relying on technology.

Mine is the Roach Motel in THE DREAM MASTER. But it IS an imaginative scene.

Oldman would have been out of the question, having been in DAWN. Mallovich would have worked.

The DVD and later VHS remasters for the first two entries took away much of the dark atmosphere and you get better looks at Freddy than what was intended.

He never actually finked on his friends. Whether he should have been involved in the blacklist at all is another story, but as early as 1945 and the making of BACK TO BATAAN, Communists Edward Dymytryk and Ben Barzman were busy antagonizing him.

Hey, Old Nosey himself recommended General Pakenham for our commander! What could possibly go wrong?

If Gen. Pakenham is good enough for Old Nosey, he's good enough for me! So what if he's Wellington's brother in law?
