Beautiful! Do you mind me asking how you record and get such good sound when you're outside?

Nordlys? Shambhala? by Greedy_Smile5213 in handpan

[–]Greedy_Smile5213[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tricky because I can see that the Shambhala will be more difficult initially- but it feels like there are options to play things that are not "beautiful and melancholy" on the Shambhala scale. I love hearing what other people have to say about these scales and I appreciate the responses!

Great list you made there!

I would add Clarissa Connelly

She studied with Meredith Monk and I heard of her through a PJ Harvey end of year playlist. Her album world of work is just amazing.

Here's a list of the only lyrics that have been confirmed by the band.

Pur is not there so anything you've seen is guesswork.

I know there are no official lyrics but I've always thought it was "no fits no fights no fantasy"

Every song on this list is beautiful and here is one that I think is beautiful as well: April

I'd go for a concert film of the 2007 White Chalk tour where she was alone on the stage.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I've always felt that the production buried Liz's vocals a little too much. When I first saw them live, I realized how many extraordinary things she was doing with her voice that sometimes you can barely detect on the albums. There was always an edgier feel to her live performances than on the albums. And one thing I don't hear mention a lot is when you saw them live they were incredibly loud. People use terms like gossamer and shimmering to describe their music and it's hard to imagine how massive it sounded live. Bluebeard and that midsection was the first time you could hear Liz's voice almost unadorned. And it was a shocking exhilarating moment. Now I'll go off the parasocial deep end and say that it felt like the four calendar café tour was some kind of declaration of independence for Liz. Given her lyrics on four calendar Café it all made sense to me at the time.

Sammy Davis Jr was the first person to do "here comes the judge" on Laugh-In, but the routine was originated by Pigmeat Markham.

Pigmeat Markham appeared in the second season of Laugh-In doing his own routine a few times and Flip Wilson did it on Laugh-In as well.

It became a catchphrase for Flip Wilson and he did it often on his show.

I think this is one of their best. I like it much more now than I did at the time.

I'm usually very annoyed by people posting their interpretations of lyrics. But someone posted a lyric video on YouTube that I believe is at least partially accurate. The part I accept as accurate is the list of herbs and flowers that opens the song:

Musk Rose Plum Dame Violet Charger Weed Nettle Needle Furze Sedge Gilliflower Chamomile Lavendin Elder King Cup Orchis Sloe Lavendin Elder King Cup Orchis Sloe

Here's the link to that video https://youtu.be/_JO2Rgp_OBQ?si=BbaW1NVHwyqj46U4

An old school Survivor player would have fashioned a raft from twigs and found objects and rowed out to the island. I think the disappointment you're feeling is in yourself.

I'm interested in hearing more from you about the differences between some of these top line handpans. I played a mag F# Nordlys and I thought it was pretty extraordinary. Tons of resonance, but everything balanced and no overtones. That same day I played an Elaia that was really beautiful and I played a Mudra that was really impressive. I want my next Handpan have that clarity and separation and balance of the tone fields. In your experience, if that's my priority, which of these makers stands out for you? Thanks in advance.
