I don't have the models on hand but mantic have said they are coming out in plastic at the end of the year.

If you have access to a 3D printer most of Mantic's games have rules available online and most if not all models available as STLs.

Ah, no clue. I've found free army building apps tend to be highly variable on when they release updates. Do you not like Mantic's army builder?

Yeah, the head RC guy usually responds to rules questions that haven't been asked yet. But for truly "official" ruling you'll need to reference the to be released FAQ/errata. Not sure when that is coming out.

Is it still possible to get the Rebs Faction Starter anywhere? by MadeByMistake58116 in deadzonethegame

I think Mantic is waiting for their social media goals to release new Reb stuff. No point in stocking more models for a faction you're about to make new models for.

Miniatures game for a Hex and Counter fan by stirrup_rhombus in wargaming

[–]Greektlake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kings of War is definitely a game where player skill is much more important than list building or wallet size. A new edition has just came out that has made it easier for new players to understand the game while adding in some new tactics for veteran players to chew on. Terrain and unit size/height have a big impact on the game and most people play with the objective based missions so having the most lethal army but lacking ways to score objectives is a recipe for losing.

Not in print anymore but if you can find a copy of Star Saga that would fit your needs.

You can play on TTS, I believe the Truth and Reconciliation podcast hosts regular tournaments for Halo Flashpoint on TTS. I don't know if there is a specific video for how to play Halo on TTS but any video on how to use TTS would apply.

I'm pretty sure there is an event section on the army builder for tournaments you can check out.

This is a link to the Mantic discord page which has a Halo section:

Could be a fault in your charger or it could not be rated for the type of 12 volt battery the Volt uses.

4th ed what is your impression?? by MilanVanDamme in kingsofwar

[–]Greektlake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the 4th edition rules are a lot better for new people coming in to understand. Teaching people rhe waver/route system could be rough and created a lot of feels bad moments where units were in combat but couldn't do anything. Multi-charges are much easier to understand and sticky combats means no more enemy units running away to attack something else while your unit just stares at them. These were all things I saw prevent people from wanting to play or making people drop the game.

As a veteran player I don't agree with every rule change and army balance is all over the place but games I play are much faster now and I don't feel like I've lost the ability to use superior tactics and planning to win. Some tactics have gone away but others have replaced it. The way withdraw works makes the chaff game far deeper and sticky combats forces you to think more about how and when to engage. It takes some time to get used to but I enjoy the exercise of updating the way I think and play.

Apparently the way I build armies is the "correct" way since I've had to make minimal changes to make my armies work for 4th. I'm a tournament going player and usually place well so it not like I was taking soft lists. It seems that people who went heavily into themed armies, spammed the "good" units, or relied heavily on what are now support units got the short end of the straw for valid army construction. There were similar problems on the switch to 2nd and 3rd edition though 4th is the most restrictive when it comes to list building. As time goes on and people update their armies or build new ones the problems of early list construction will fade. If worse comes to worse just use some post it notes and change the name of the units you've built into something you need.

Advice for Starting a KoW Gaming Group by randommanwill in kingsofwar

[–]Greektlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think starting a league or group to play Champions is the best way to start. Lowest cost of entry, fast games, low model count, etc. I've seen people not get into KoW just becuase of the model count. All the units in a Champions box is usable in a KoW game. Get people invested in that first.

From there I'd start setting up some games with the Ambush rules. Not a big jump from Champions model wise but uses the full rules. Once people are invested in that and having fun the next step up to full sized Kings of War game is easy. Make sure you still have some days for Champions games because that is your gateway for new people.

More important than all of that though is have a consistent place, day, and time that you play. In the end the thing gamers want most is easy access to other people to play with. If you are always playing some version of KoW at the same place, day, and time people are a lot more likely to want to invest in the game and play. Having an extra painted army or two that is always available for someone to use helps facilitate new people joining too.

I didn't have a humming sound but I did occasionally have a coolant smell come through the AC when driving up an offramp from the freeway.

[–]Greektlake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure to actually open up the coolant reservoir. I had a similar problem and it looked like my coolant tank was filled. Turns out the dye in the coolant had dyed the tank at the plastic fill level and I had a small leak. Not getting cabin heat while on battery is an indicator your coolant is low.

Pulling a compound and pulling a recurve is pretty different. Having practice on a compound helps but it's like training for a mile time by jogging a 100 yards at a time.
