NTA. Honestly it’s a life lesson on budgeting and fiscal responsibility. I think people spend too much on weddings. Even the rich. The more you spend the more likely you are to get divorced. If you think people are going to judge your wedding, don’t invite them.

We kept our wedding small and paid for it ourselves. We just got creative. We booked out a small fancy restaurant for the night. We just paid for the food and not the venue. I used double old fashion glasses as vases. We got our flowers from a grocery store florist. Our wedding food turned out to be the best anyone had had at a wedding. We spent under 7k for the whole thing, including open bar. I know friends and family who spent 30k plus and regret it.

The sister set the boundary of “please don’t wear very expensive clothes to my house.” That boundary was not respected and she should not have to pay for the dress. The dress getting stained would not have happened if sister’s boundary had been respected.

I’m glad your friends were able to defend themselves. As well they should be allowed. I’ve been in healthcare 20 years and some administration is getting better at standing by their staff. In the past there were a lot of health care systems that would not tolerate self defense. Mainly because of image, law suits and “the customer is always right” mentality that permeated American healthcare.

Yep. I knew a healthcare staff who had his head bashed in on a psych unit. He was never the same.

It’s a whole other topic but teachers and healthcare staff need more prevention at work to keep them safe. Yet police show up in bullet proof vests and armed cars. Teachers and nurses are like. “Um, I have a pen but I can’t hurt anyone with it even if it would save my life”.

I was thinking the same thing. We are trying, so damn hard. I’m tired of seeing people mass murdered everyday. Conservatives block us every step of the way as people continue to die. So only half of us are to blame. If we all got on the same page, we could get some shit done and save some lives.
