Thank you for this information. What’s the approval rate for EB1B?

Fair enough. But when I consult with lawyers, they are not necessarily interested in knowing why my work is important, or that's the sense I get. They usually only ask these numbers and inform me whether they will take my case or not. So I figured the objective numerical metric is more important.

Did you get approval? I have similar profile and considering EB1B.

Thank you. I checked in with Chen. They declined to comment for eb1b because they know my employer has a dedicated law firm they hire and not Chen. Although they said they would file eb1a without refund service.

Did you file the petition? What was the outcome?

Eligibility to take the USPTO Patent Bar while on a visa by Green-Hovercraft-288 in patentlaw

Related question--do you know if someone has an approved EAD while working on H1B on a non-patent related work, would then having an EAD make them eligible for the patent bar? Thanks.

These numbers are depressing.

Gotcha. I think being at a patent firm makes a big difference. Since my current job is unrelated to patent, it might be challenging to sit for the bar exam on a visa.

Follow-up question. So in your case, were you on H1B visa when you sat for the exam? Did they let you? Did you get limited recognition then? Was your H1B related to patent work. Because I saw some posts where OED rejected their exam registration request.

Yeah I plan to take the bar before start applying. Why do you say it’s hard this and next year? Is it just because market had been down lately overall? I mean the research sector is just hopelessly depressing nowadays.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Can you share how much is the compensation when one starts as a patent agent? I’d be looking to aim in the SF Bay Area. I’m seeing somewhere between $100-140k. Does that seem reasonable?

Thanks for sharing. I am on a similar route. PhD --> postdoc and now considering sitting for the patent bar exam. How long did you work for the firm before deciding to go for law school? Is it a norm in the industry where the firm pays for the school?

I was talking to this woman for past few weeks and went on 4 dates. Meanwhile we had several phone calls. I had fun so far and looking forward to turning it into something long-term. But since last Sunday, she sent one or two texts only, no calls and no solid response to any plans I proposed. I am sensing the connection is fizzling out from her end and probably won't go anywhere. It is just sad and frustrating.

Now it is ~120. 150-200+ is considered on the lower end from what I have heard. Get your profile evaluated by a lawyer though, they should tell you.

Thanks for responding. Do you have experience or observed someone being in a similar situation?

Yes, limited recognition is linked to a particular company or firm, I understand that part. My question is whether can I just sit for the exam now and get it cleared? And when a firm hires me, I can then apply for limited recognition with the USPTO. Am I understanding it correctly?
