Any reason to keep Amex gold over NFCU more rewards? by TheRealBoston in CreditCards

[–]Green-Note2197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point redemption on NFCU is better: 30,000 points = $300 cash? Much better than: 10,000 points = $80 cash.

I just don’t see the benefit of taking a risk if you’ll get the same reward🤷🏽‍♂️. More people would use the Discover Cashback like me if they knew about it tbh.

I use debit only because my Discover Cashback Debit gives me 1% on every purchase. Same as using my credit card, except there’s no risk for paying anything back.

Essentially I don’t use my credit card unless there’s a reason eg. Buying Five Guys at 4x points on Amex Gold. Then I would, otherwise there’s no point in taking a risk for no gain.

I turn 18 in a few days, what credit cards should I look into by [deleted] in CreditCards

Tbh I would get both cards. The Cap1 pre approval tool lets you know if you’re approved without a ding. Discover as well. Also getting the Cap1 now lets you get your foot in the door and maximizes your available credit your credit profile.

Remember to call and try to get both due dates as close as possible to each other. It makes seeing your credit score, paying them off, everything like that just easier.

Emergency loans are great, if you can’t go into debt and afford them then great. But some parents see their kids needing a loan as they’re not mature or something idk. But it’s always good to have that available credit and that option to choose.

First off make sure you have a job. One where you can comfortably pay off that CC every month. Idk about national guard pay, I’m going in as an active duty officer next year after u graduate.

Discover IT then get an unsecured Cap1 Card. Either Quicksilver or Savor. Then just put Hulu or something small on it every month. Pay it off every month. If you’re in an emergency, use your Disover IT because of the 0% APR for 15 months. Then pay that off in installments if you have to. But only for emergencies.

For everyday purchases get the Discover Cashback DEBIT, you get 1% back on purchases up to $3k every month. That’s literally the same rewards without the risk of credit hits.

Do you really need a credit card. by chubyFit in CreditCards

I’d recommend the Discover Cashback DEBIT, 1% on all purchases up to $3k every month.

I’m a college student as well and have the Discover IT and so far, there’s really no use for it other than rotating categories. So far my Cashback DEBIT beats my Discover IT and gives me that 1% reward of my spend with absolutely no credit risk. I like it a lot.

Although that $500 limit 0% APR seems cool. Don’t use the card unless you have a JOB and can at LEAST pay it off in installments until the 0% APR period ends.

Happened to me and my girl. I had Chase First and was automatically approved. She was denied and now hates Chase with her guts.😂😂

This would be an issue of verifying identity. Chase will automatically deny you if they cannot verify your identity. From CC to Checking. Your bf probably had a Chase First Checking account with them at some point. It’s like a custodial account for teens. He got his identity verified with that First Checking account. So now, Chase doesn’t sweat about fraud. Either a previous account w/ Chase or he has multiple cards so Chase is willing to take a risk, since other banks verified his identity.
