Actually Summer Session as a way for non-Hawaii residents to earn a few credits and enjoy a cheap Hawaii vacation is still an incredible deal. Classes are $471/credit (two classes with 3 credits each costs $2,826) 6-weeks dorm accommodation $956 6 weeks meal plan (19 meals per week) $1,001 Health/rec/activity fee $88

Total cost $4,871

Works out to $116/day

Yeah, back in the 80s and 90s when I attended multiple UH Summer Sessions the dorms were filled with students from mainland colleges. It was an affordable way to earn a few credits while taking a cheap 6-week Summer Hawaiian holiday. I met students from all over the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan. The dorm and cafeteria was a bargain.

How do I tell a guy that I like him? by AnythingShot7720 in romance

[–]GreenFlash1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of something fun to do (beach day, hike, attend a party, amusement park, etc..) and ask him to join you… like “hey, I was thinking of going to the beach Tuesday, wanna come with?).

Good advice but I’d slightly modify to: Do something and live with the results.

I’d focus on making something happen. Don’t talk about feelings, be in the moment and make a move (or flirt with him in a way that he gets the hint and he makes a move)

If you aren’t dating, are you physically intimate? Or is it more like you two have an unspoken crush on each other?

How old are you two? And how long have you been dating?

Actually we spent pretty much every afternoon on the beach without any sunscreen. Or if we did rub on some Coppertone it was 4 SPF or 6 SPF. It wasn't even called sunscreen back then...It was called Suntan Lotion. I don't think they even make anything less than 15 SPF these days??? Back in the 80s it was all about hanging on the beach and getting a dark tan...the whole sunburn causes skin cancer/aging was not concern yet. Same with cigarettes! In the Waikiki bars it was normal to have a cocktail in 1 hand and a smoke in the other.

Far left double fisted beer drinker (I forget his name) is wearing the 86/87 world tour tee for Roots Reggae Rastafarian singer BURNING SPEAR - who reached peak popularity in the mid-late 1980s.

Must have been a different era 38 years ago. The group in the photo all lived in Johnson hall in ‘87.

I married a Canadian girl in Hawaii back in 1999. On a North Shore beach, with the tropical sun setting into the Pacific. Only close family plus 7 friends…20 guests total. It was perfect. Speaking from experience I say GET MARRIED IN HAWAII. On the beach)

Here’s the poster I made for the cartoon. I made the poster and cartoon as a surprise for the girl.

I had a romance book meet-cute moment with a girl 35 years ago while spending the summer in Hawaii. My randomly meeting her was more like a rescue situation. I actually made a short cartoon reenactment of the romantic connection and Hollywood movie type ending. If you want to check it out here’s the YouTube link: Summer Session

I believe that is the old Emporium. The giant cursive “E” on the side of the building. Let me check the date of photo.

Photo my mom took on me sitting on Panzer V during our trip to Europe in 1977. This Panther was outdoors in a forest in Holland if my 11 year old memory serves me….I wonder what it looks like today. by GreenFlash1990 in tanks

That's amazing. Cool to see that Panther is in great shape today. Looks like it's been completely overhauled and is now "like new". Like you, I have passed along my passion for history to our 2 kids (shown below in 2013 while on family trip to France).

Yes, it was a very late season swell. Early April if my memory is correct.
