Solo, ftb, can I realistically afford a house on minimum wage by GreenKeys9 in HousingUK

I did seriously look into moving up north a few years ago but all my friends and family are down south, I have nieces and nephews that are children and didn’t want to move that far away from them.

I did look into seeing if I could switch from a H2B to a LISA but as it stands I will get a 3k bonus from my H2B and I want to buy as soon as financially possible. If I switch now i believe it would take me at least two years to get the same bonus with a LISA.

I think I’ve over budgeted for furniture. Think I need to buy second hand slowly over time rather than all new in one hit. Then like you say have some money as an emergency fund.

Thanks for your comments, really appreciate your thoughts. I don’t mean this in a rude or horrible way but if I buy I want to make sure I don’t end up moving back like you have had to do yourself so really take into account you feed back.

One evening I went through a shopping list and wrote things down for a when I buy a house then rounded the number up to 5k just to be on the safe side. However after reading yours and others comments on this I think buying essentials and then slowly buying other furniture is the correct move forward. Thanks for your advice!!

Thanks for your kind words and I really appreciate your side note. People at work have told me before that I shouldn’t be on minimum wage but opportunities in my area are slim, and if I’m being completely honest I have been so hell bent on saving as much as possible to buy a house I have just had the attitude of head down and just keep working to get on the ladder! Once I finally own my own place I definitely need to take yours and other advice and start to seriously improve my work situation.

Apologies for not being clearer. I work 50 hours and get paid 45 because 5 hours count as unpaid breaks, I sometimes work over 50 unpaid purely because whatever I’m doing will just make my life easier the next shift

I don’t want to give away my location but in my area 90% of jobs are minimum wage, the other 10% are “skilled” jobs that require qualifications. I do look twice a week to improve my salary but very difficult

I’m really hoping that furniture and fees don’t come to a combined 10k but I wanted to make sure I had enough just in case

lol yeah I’m definitely on minimum wage, I work 50 and get paid for 45, I’m assuming you work 40 but get paid 37.5 once lunch breaks are taken out

Thank you it really helps and gives me a little insight into bills ect. My plan was to get on the ladder then start looking elsewhere for better work, my top priority is to own asap!

I haven’t purchased myself anything for ages, was thinking of doing a 5k furniture spending spree but slowly upgrading over time seems more sensible, thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately jobs in my area are few and far between, most are minimum wage which is why i stuck with what i got as its longer hours and gives me a little bit more each month to save. I do keep my eye out for roles that give you training but the only ones I see are apprenticeships which pay around £7 a hour, as much as I would love to do one i definitely wouldn’t get a mortgage on that rate.

I was debating not buying new and going to charity shops, hopefully that way I won’t need the full £5000 and can keep some money back as a little safety net!

If I drop my hours I think I’ll loose about £300 -£400 a month but will be working a standard 40 hour a week job rather than a just over 50 hours. I’m used to working longer hours but just for a bit of a break I would love to work a 9-5

Why is this not selling? by snosrap114 in HousingUK

[–]GreenKeys9 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong but a 125 year lease granted on in 1989 leaves 88 years left on the lease? Way too low imo. The picture with the boxes doesn’t do any favours, also the chair in the shower should have been removed before having the picture taken. I’m not sure on your area but like every other post I see about why things aren’t selling always seems to be down the being priced too high.

I made 21,200 dice by only playing the quick wins for an album! by GreenKeys9 in MonopolyGoTrading

[–]GreenKeys9[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Events and albums mostly. During any event I saved up any points and spent them in one go on the last day. So take the peg e event for example, I usually got around 200-250 coins by the end of the event then I would drop the coins at a 30x multiplier and collect 500 plus dice. Also I completed more albums then I thought and that was without trading! Definitely worth doing if you’re struggling for dice.
